Guys, I got the EMF's installed.

My OEM ball joints had, are you ready for this, 238,000 miles on them and the left side was making a popping sound when turning.

I installed the right side's first because I had a bad u-joint in the axle that really needed some love. So, last weekend I got the right side done. And after doing the right side the steering didn't feel right. It had a catch in it when turning either direction and when returning to center. It would take a little extra effort to get past it. I really thought that it was the EMF ball joints because it didn't do this prior to the EMF installation.

Last night I got the left side ball joints done. The steering is as smooth as silk, and it has been from the moment that I pull out of the driveway. The steering is superb.

When I did the right sides I had both front tires off the ground and the truck on jack stands. I think that may have allowed the OEM left sides, that have 238,000 miles on them, to move or something causing the catch in the steering. It was not the EMF ball joints.

And there was no break-in period for mine. They were just as they are supposed to be from the very first time that I drove them.

Highly recommended!

Thank you CJC Offroad,
Gil

Just a follow up after nearly 2 months and about a 1,000 miles.

My ball joints did not require any type of break-in as others have reported. They were perfect from the beginning. I did think that I had a problem with them but it turned out to be my track bar bushing which became loose right after installing the ball joints.

These ball joints are tight and smooth as butter. After driving for a week or two, I regreased them, and they took only a pump.

They came with detailed, specific instructions and if you follow them to the letter you'll be very satisfied.

Which tools did you use to remove the OE BJ's and install the new EMF's? I assume an OTC kit (6539-2?) with their C-clamp.

I just borrowed Autozone's ball joint press. It's a really good press and the one that I got just happened to be brand new. Also, EMF sends the proper press adapters, and that ensures that you don't ruin your new ball joints by pressing where you are not suppose to, if that makes since.

The adapters that come with the EMF ball joints make it easier to install the ball joints and know that you aren't going to void the warranty by pressing on the joint somewhere that you shouldn't.

That's great to know EMF sends the right adapters! Thanks for that information!

I don't think my order came with those adapters. Did you ask for them?

No I didn't ask for them, it's just what they do. It even shows the adapters on their site. EMF 2003-2012 Dodge Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty Ball Joints. I don't know why you didn't get them.

I think you have to buy all 4 ball joints at the same time to get the adapters.

They are not elaborate items, they are simply turned and bored on a lathe, but they are effective.

I did get all 4 bal joints, maybe they just forgot them. Luckily i had access to the nice snap-on ball joint press, so i didn't need them.

Yeah, the adapters from EMF aren't necessary if a person knows what he is doing. Maybe they had not started including the adapter when you bought yours. I don't know. But like you said, you did the job without them, and I think most people could, but it kind of makes it mistake proof for someone who may not have experience with ball joints, etc.

Mine are the bomb too and I got the installation tools with mine from CJC. Very pleased with the EMF ball joints and CJC experience.

I've read good things about dynatracs. I'm sure he'll have great service out of them.

What sold me on the EMF's were four things:

1. The price
2. The race and the ball are replaceable
3. The body remains in the knuckle when rebuilding, no more pressing them out and back in, enlarging the holes in the knuckles.
4. The price of a rebuild is so inexpensive

I don't think a person could go wrong with either Carli, Dynatrac, or EMF.

I hope to keep this truck a long time, therefore I don't mind spending for premium replacement parts. Buy once, cry once.

I’ve had the EMF’s for two years now and they are awesome. Also the owners are super cool and the US/Canadian exchange rate worked out good for me(ordered from EMF).
