Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing insane EGTs. Every once in a while I will be driving along the highway when my EGTs suddenly start sky rocketing up to 1450 then back down to 1100 then back up to 1450 or so again over and over. It reaches 1500 the other day. This happens on flat ground keeping a constant speed. The turbo also begins to choke during all of this. The regen is off during all of this so what is it? Last night I got frustrated when it did it so I hammered the throttle and drove at 100MPH and everything suddenly cooled off. Isn't that bassackwards? If I cant even drive it normaly without it overheating what the heck is the point. Im just going to dive it until it melts I guess.

Its your EGT causing it. When it opens it pumps that hot exhaust back through the intake. Watch your intake air temps at the same time. I bet they will jump crazy too.

sounds like you have a wire loose or something else is wrong with the dpf delete, you should not be seeing those numbers after the delete. after my delete and before the egr fell off i was not seeing any spikes in egts like it was in regen. i don't see what kind of dpf delete you have but i would double check all the connections first. with just the dpf gone you should see about 850 deg @ 70mph. after the egr is gone mine dropped to about 690.

I did my own DPF delete. No box or anything. The only code was the pressure code and that doesnt even pop up anymore. I think I just have a bad EGR or something.

Chris meant EGR not EGT.

It also could be the regen. I have experienced the same porblem. At higher speeds it runs cleaner so you don't regen as much.

What flash do you have?

It might be the ECM is regenning because it does not see any sensors, It may doing regular burn offs now. Without your sensors, it's hard to say. Could be driving the ECM crazy. It wants to "Run Home to Mama"

Since you made your own DPF, why not put the sensors back in? It won't be that hard and it will tell if what I am suspecting is right or not. Then the ECM has all it faculties.

All of the sensors are still installed. Its driving me crazy. Im getting the third PCM installed in it tomorrow. Maybe something will change.

when you said you made your own delete, this maybe the problem, with each of the "kits" the fooler box sends a signal to the ecm telling it that everything is OK. without the little black box your ecm is telling the truck to go into regen, egr will block off the good air and the fuel is being dumped into the exhaust stroke. look into the box from one of the outfits and this will most likely solve your problems.

I have been having the same problem. Mine does it only after a regeneration mode. I do have a Juice with Attitude and an AFE intake.

I have not done the DPF delete yet, it is coming soon.

I contacted Edge with my question about the EGT's bouncing up and down, and this was the reply.

I would say it has something to do with unburned fuel still left inside the DPF that did not get completely burned while the truck was in regeneration. I have wondered the same thing because I have seen our truck do it also. It doesn't seem to hurt anything so we never really worry about it. I did talk to the engineer about it and he said its either unburned fuel or possibly something to do with pressure releasing out of the DPF. Either way I would not stress it, I am sure everything is working properly. Let us know if we can help with anything else.
