If you need to return it to stock for smog checks then another option is to put the freeze plug in the crossover tube and block off the egr flow. Easy to remove for checks or source a used one to swap out when needed.

With the smarty tuners I thought the valve still had to be plugged in.
just the little brown motor thats held on with 4 screws, remove the screws, pull the motor off and pull the plunger out of the motor. Zip tie the motor and harness out of the way

I have a smarty jr, and just unplugged the motor and removed it. It has ran fine for six months like that.

Most people wont notice the slight engine derate in the lower rpm range.
Most likely you deleted and thought it was way better/good enough, the instuctions still state leaving it plugged in. It's a common mistake.
