ok so i had an early 04 motor that had a valve come apart a few months ago and smoke the motor. i have since gotten a new motor and began installing it. the "new" motor is and 04.5 motor. What are the differences in the motors? will i have issues running it with my old ecm because my truck is a 6 speed and the motor is out of an auto so i have to switch them. will it run alright?

you sould be allright with harness but i do know that the progam from auto vers manual is diff. what i would do is put your ecm on the new engine it should run and then take it in and have it reflashed with software for the 04.5 . the bacic injector is same but the noseles are dif between thoughs years

for the harness, the 03-04 models (some not all) had a separate computer for trans control behind the stock airbox, the 04.5 and some later 04's (04.25's) did away with that. If you try to use your 04 ecm on that 04.5 motor it will not work because the injectors are sized differently. The 03-04 truck has 8 hole injectors (two injection pulses per cycle) and the 04.5 has 5 hole injectors (three injection pulses per cycle) You'll need to at lease swap nozzles out of the old truck if you hope to use the 04 ECM. I believe the ECM is totally different from a manual to auto truck in 04.5 because the transmission control hardware is integrated.

ok, mine didnt have the airbox comp so im good with that i will just have the extra plugs that were supposed to go to the auto trans and i can just let them chill there. will the truck run with the auto 04.5 ecm on it until i get it flashed for the 6 speed software?

maybe, it will be looking for a neutral safety switch from the auto and if you won't have it that could be a problem......it might not start all together. One thing for sure your ABS will not work. Those are VIN locked.

Good question, I have no idea... Like I said in one of the other posts, I'm not sure that's possible because in 04.5-07 the transmission controller is integrated into the ECM so it think it is a totally different ECU for manual transmission trucks. I could be wrong, either way your best bet would be to call the dealer and find out.
