At first I thought you used a hood strut.

Did you have to replace the upper bolt the struts sit on?

I had no idea struts were ever added to a pickup tailgate from the factory. Does it take more effort when lifting the tailgate? In other words, is that a double acting piston or a single action?

I bought one of those last year and have to admit its the BEST $25 I EVER spent on my truck! This thing is fantastic and gives you piece of mind when opening the tailgate, like he said above - NO MORE banging or having to worry about holding it!

Its a dampener down only after market, DeeZee 02 up that's why I posted it showing it can be done on a 2nd gen with a little drilling.

These are a super addition to any tailgate...I've had them on my 3rd gen truck for years. It should be a factory option as it makes opening the tailgate with one hand a breeze.

Got one for Christmas. How important is the hole location on the tailgate? Can you give me a measurement of the hole from the bolt on the tailgate in your picture? Installing it on my 96 2500.

Floyd
The hole location is the most important part of the in stall I will post the
Dimension tomorrow I used a thick washer on the inside as a backer that's the reason for the hole plug.

Great, I had order one only to find out it use a torsion bar instead of the damper. Thou cheaper, it takes two hands to line up after tailgate removal. So I never bother to install it.

But now I know the damper is doable.

OK, I've got a lot of projects going now. Just took a look at my truck and the upper mount for the cable looks like its a permanently attached. Does it unscrew with vice grips? How did you do the upper mount?

Thanks
