i just read an article about the lift pump updates,i have never looked at mine,how do you know if it has been done and is that a warranty issue or am i SOL, my engine date is 10-03 but the truck is titled as an 04. sorry for the stupid ? but thanks for any info

your truck would have the lift pump canister mounted unless it died and was taken to the dealer for a fix, which it would then go into the tank.

you can find the location of the lift pump one of two ways, either look at the back side of the filter, and if you see something that looks like a roll of quarters mounted on the back you found it. or you can turn the key to run and listen to that area of the engine. if you hear what sounds like a pump you know where it is.

the stock pump is alright. mine has been able to support, for what I can figure through dyno's and tracking the increase of my smarty and tst, about 500hp. however they are problematic and will fail at the worst moment. for our 3rd gens having the CP3 pump, it is less prone to damage if the lift pump dies as opposed to the VP44 of the late 2nd gens.
