I have a 2wd 95 SRW qclb, Dana 70 rear end with 3.55 gears... I'm trying to find info on how to convert it over to a DRW.. I know the 2nd gen dually rear end have a Dana 80 and (correct me if I'm wrong) have to have a different driveshaft for the Dana 80... But again (correct me if I'm wrong) the 1st gens have a Dana 70 rear end... Would that bolt up to my truck and what all would I need to convert it... Just need some info... Thanks

The drive shaft for the Dana 80 will be shorter?

The dana 80 has a longer case. That places the u-joint holder closer to the transmission compared to a dana 70. Also, the dually rear axle is wider for a pickup due to the offset difference in the dually rims and is be narrower than that on a cab and chassis. If you put on a flat bed the axle width is irrelevant.

The 1st gens have a dana 70. However, where the springs mounts are and how well it will mount up without minor spring perch modifications are unknown to me.

I guys,
we are also interested on this kind of swap, based on some research here we found that in theory 94 to 02 it should be a direct fit and pretty much a bolt on job.
Please correct us if we are wrong.

Some of the later 2nd gens have disc brakes. You may need some extra parts like a proportioning valve and cables to make them work. It should however be a bolt on replacement. The question remains about the speedometer sensor. I believe there is a difference in the rear axles regarding one having a sensor.
