What am i going to have to do to fix it? I have a SB DD 3600 Street. I did something stupid and now its starting to slip some. When i get on it hard i can feel it slip then grab. Only tried one 3rd gear launch since i did that stupid thing and itll slip a little at first then grabs. Havnt tried it again or driven real hard since.
Is there anything i can do to fix it or do i need to have the disks and pressure plate replaced?
Also can i upgrade the pressure with the flywheel i currently have?
Thanks

:agree2: i have seen some STUPID things done with a SB DD and they held everybit of it. But my buddy that has a 12V pulling truck has over 50 hooks on his DD and he is getting his redone, and made into the next size up...don't know what it is for sure

Well it may not be as stupid for some but i was telling myself, dont do it, dont do it, its stupid, dont do it. Well i did it anyways. I helped my brother move one weekend and he was riding with me, we were empty. Pulled up to a stop sign that was out in the country with a slight incline. You could see where other people tried doing some little burnouts and i knew i could better, and with my brother with me, i had to show off a little. He likes that stuff. Well did a 3rd gear burnout, no brake and roasted my 315's for about 30', over twice what everyone elses marks where. :peelout Everything was fine. Well i helped him move and went and dropped the trailer back off and on my way back out i was by myself and was coming up to the same stop sign again.
Well as im coming up to the stop sign. I was thinking to myself, that burnout was way too easy, wonder if i can hit 4th. Then for a mile before i stop, im trying to convince myself its stupid dont do it, dont do it and it worked until i stopped at the stop sign.
So i launched in 3rd, roasting my 315's, so i bury the rpms about 3500, hoping the tires will stay spinning when i shift. Well, i hit 4th, dump the clutch, the tires stick, the engine revs, my clutch slips and i dont move. After a few seconds and realize my tires arent spinning i stop and go on my way. When i stopped you could smell the burnt clutch really bad. :thud:
I know you can slip a DD and itll be fine but didnt know how much it would actually take. Thought i would just give it some time to work itsself back out but doesnt seem to be working.

hm ya i have seen worse than that and it held....so idk. I have seen a 4th gear holshot at 4000 rpms on a p-pumped 24V and it held everybit of that. And i have seen repeated 3rd gear holeshots in 12Vs.

Wonder what plate load they were using though? I have one of the weaker ones.

i couldn't tell you. I know that they are SB DD and that they use them for sled pulling. But i have seen numerous SB DD do big nasty holeshots like it was nothing

there's a guy my buddy knows that has more power than is suggested for a con fe in a 2nd gen and it holds just fine! but my friend has a 3rd gen with a con fe and he couldn't hold it and i don't think he is putting out as much power. but he is putting in a DD in this weekend and we will see. good luck with it:thumbsup

Have you tried called Petter at South Bend yet to see what he could do for you? He is a very understanding person when it come to this stuff. I know because of all the stuff I put him threw myself:lol3:

YouTube - Dodge Diesel 3500 Dual Disk Clutch

Mine held 4th gear.

Call Peter and ask him about me.

I've broken all of his clutchs except this sprung dual disk, which I think is a 3850 plate load.
Broke the OFE (5-speed (rivets) and 6-speed conversion(rivets and wore out)), FE (6-speed conversion(rivets again)) and the solid disk dual disk (splines).

Tell him that you want a clutch that Merrick couldn't break. LOL. He'll understand.

Ill try to give him a call. I dont have very much time during the day to talk on the phone thats why i posted up in South Bends section hoping they might chime in also. I got on it some this evening and seems to be holding now. So we'll see how it keeps working, think all i needed to do was wear off the burnt layer off the pads.
Thanks guys

My First dual disk did that, but I really abused it alot more than this one.

My OFE also did that, but as I gave it a few more miles, it started holding again.

If it continues to hold, you probably just glazed and you have to re-break it in.

dont quite know how this turned out for you. but to me it sounds like you just glazed the clutch a little. give it some time it will reseat and be fine again!! if it does not, at that point is when i would call and talk to Peter he will know exactly what to do. best customer service i have ever seen!

Hey don't feel bad I was driving home from my town in Washington state and saw the big hill and saw that the rode was wet and hit it in 2nd spinning the wheels then 3rd then 4th then I hit 5th thought I was spinning the wheels (along side a large wall to the right... 4in MBRP... if you get my drift) for about 3sec I thought I was a bad and then when I realized my speedo said 25 I looked like an ... And yes one of my friends that loves the cummins was riding along... now I'm looking for a South bend or Valair clutch, I knew it was going to be needed I'm still running the stock clutch. :(
