hey guys, i recently purchased an 05 ram 3500 QC LB 4x4, and it seems to have a driveline whine around 40 km/h and again between 65-75 kmh, and a slight one at about 104 km/h.... i looked at the driveshaft and it appears to have been replaced... no idea why... and the hanger bearing is new-ish... is it likely time for a couple new u joints? i hope its that easy... its quite a high pitched whine almost like the old school buses used to do haha.... hard to describe... anyone have any ideas? thanks

I have about the same problem sound like your blowing into a glass bottle? I thought my problem was the transmission. Kinda got me at a loss too...

I've had my 3500 DRW for a few weeks now and I have the same noise. It reminds me of the noise our school bus used to make in high school. lol I'm hoping its nothing so far it seems to be fine. :confused013:

hmmm yea i really dont know on this one,... its deffinitely not the tranny because it will do it in any gear, but always at the same speeds and always has the same tone... can a ujoint make this noise? or is it more likely a bearing in the rear end? i have no idea haaha

My theory was that because of the cold, the gear oil thickened and wasn't flowing properly. It only did it cold so I'm thinking bearing and in my case bearing due to lack of lube.

I checked my carrier bearing first thing and all seems to be fine. I hope the noise is just the cold weather and as long as its nothing tearing up I hope it continues the sound because my wife hates it.:rof

it has nothing to do with gears and everything to do with the carrier bearing. the cold weather definately makes it worse. Ive had three different bearings and each one did it a little differently than the other. All three did it still.

08 truck has no carrier bearing and no whine!

I have a high pitched whine from the rear end at 65+ mph. Pretty obvious at 70. Was told by a dealer that it is common and some trucks are noisier than others and it wasn't warrantable. This has been at 32K-60K mileage so far. Am planning to change to a BG synthetic oil to see if it goes down. Or sawdust.
