I was wondering if anyone drag races with 5k gsk? I think I have only seen 4ks in drag trucks. by the way this would be a drag/ daily driver. I was also talking to my local diesel shop and they have a pulling truck with a pump set to push 1000cc and 6k rpm. and they are getting a bigger pump and said they would sell me their old one. so would that be a good pump to?

I wouldnt go past 4k but that is just me. Make sure you go past 4100 rpm quick or you will pay.

That would be a fun pump.................with a hand throttle

Good luck driving that on the street. The keepers like to pull out of the retainers, the vibrations destroy all but a full race balanced bottom end, anything but a specially specd cam will not flow suficiently, nor will anything but a very trick head, the valve springs won't close the valves in time, and the timing used to run those rpms would make starting and driving on a regular basis suck.

doesn't the extra rpm's help broaden the hp range

Only if the engine is up to the task of turning those rpms, the turbos need to be bigger, the head needs to flow more, the cam needs to flow more at high rpm, and the bottom end needs to be balanced, oh and to get 5k+ the governor weights would have to be lightened. You also need to remember a diesel (fuel system especially) is only half as efficent at 4k as it is at 2k

It also doesn't sould like you've ever driven a truck with 6k springs on the street. With an auto its better than a stick, but still not fun

ok so I'm starting to think 6k won't be as fun as I thought, so if do u think my truck would run well enough with that pump and some 4500 springs or would you recommend the 4000's? and I obviously will be upgrading the turbo, injectors, and many other things as well.

Carefull with titanuim on the street. They only last so long before they crack

If you like rpm and the engine is built around it, there is nothing wrong with 4.5 or 5k, its just not the most street friendly setup. And you'll have to work to get your trans to shift that high
