double clutching with g56?

Just out of curiosity do any of you fellow g56 equipped cummins owners double clutch when down shifting? I know this isnt necessary im just used to it from driving bigger trucks and 99% of the time I do it just out of habit. Seems to make downshifting alot smoother especially when towing heavy. Anyone know if there are any pros or cons to doing this is with our trucks?

I have been driving manuals since I was 7 years old. I am 30 now. Every time I try to double clutch quick I get angry noises haha. I have never been able to master it and I am on my 7th manual!
Lol you sound like my best friend he straight up gets mad at me because I can double clutch my truck so smoothly you can barely feel the shift. When he tries truck jerks and jumps and all kinds of stuff. Its all about rpms, hand and foot coordination, and timing practice makes perfect

Hmmm I usually double clutch when up shifting when she's chilly. Usually matches the synchro's a little better less noises or feed back especially into 3rd and 6th... Never downshifting...

Interesting.... I seldomly upshift double clutch but doesnt really seem to smooth anything out when truck is cold then again truck hasnt seen real cold since ive owned it. 3rd gear is kinda a funny one in these trucks ive noticed. I actually skip it when I can and just go straight to 4th doesnt really seem to "bog" the truck down to much when I do
Come on gear jammers lets hear some opinions!!
On pickups, no reason at all to double clutch due to synchronized gears.

On heavy duty big trucks the only time I use a clutch is when starting or stopping. I never use a clutch for shifting gears. Double clutching has absolutely no benefit and only wears the clutch down prematurely.
I have rebuilt many 6 - 18 speed transmissions single double and triple countershafts. All had synchronizers except really old ones so why wouldnt it be beneficial?
And you can shift a nv5600 or g56 with out a clutch and they will drop into gear just like a 10 or 18 speed. Not recommending it but you can.
Double clutching was more prevalent when trucks had two stick transmissions.
5X4'S, 6X4'S ETC.
With the newer transmissions, if you do it right, you don't need the clutch at all upshifting, or downshifting.

Heck, when I drive the wifes Honda, I don't use the clutch very often.
I guess 34 years of driving truck has taught me something :D
I don't double clutch this truck. I have drove many road rangers you have to double clutch. At the end of the day it is what ever you want to do.Some day the clutch will go out and your the one that has to put or at lest pay for it. So drive it how ever feels good to you.

Your trying to tell me new road ranger trannys have syncros? I know every one Ive taken apart has sliding clutches, deff no syncros.

Only thing a clutch is good for is getting going..
