Well finally got my truck together, been driving it for about 4 days, went through all of the suncoast steps to break the tranny in and put a little over 500 miles on it. Last night I was driving home from dinner on wet roads in 2 wheel drive and decided it was time to lay into it and see what she's got, truck is still turned down around 900 hp, so I gave it some skinny pedal in second gear and the truck took off then the check engine light Came on and tranny was junk. It locked in 4 th gear and was slipping real bad, dealer that put the tranny in called suncoast today and was told " there is no warranty with the competition tranny, You will have to pay for shipping, parts and labor". Well isn't that nice, spent close to $10,000 on a tranny that I haven't even got to use yet, that is rated for 1100 hp and its junk 4 days after I get it back.

That is total BS. Suncoast should make it right. Shame on you Suncoast for not standing behind your product.

Suncoast

I have firsthand, secondhand knowledge of a similar situation (because I sold the guy the transmission after I didn't use it for a project) of Suncoast's customer service. He had about 1000 miles on his breakin of the Comp 68 before it grenaded. Their response to him was the same as the OP, "go pound sand."
I ended up with a RevMax 850 in my 2011 and couldn't be happier with their customer service. I also had some other performance parts installed at the same time and the shop had trouble figuring out surging issues. Any guesses how they decided to work it out??? If you guessed strap it on a dyno before breaking it in, you win. Much to their credit RevMax took care of me. It surely wasn't their fault, wasn't mine either though. Of course the installer wasn't at fault because, well just because (his story, not mine.)

Sun coast is kind of like banks it seems. People buy them more for the name then actual feedback from real customers. No offense natedog, just my observation.

It's funny because without customers all a company is (especially in the aftermarket world) is a bunch of fancy expensive parts. If you take care of the people buying your product the rest will work itself out.
Thats not to say there aren't d-bags who will try and screw an honest company, but unfortunately that too comes with the territory.
Revmax will be my choice when the time comes.

Definitely contact them directly and see what they say. That's pretty BS. You may not be a "large" name in the diesel community but you sure could sing like a canary on all the forums and steer people away from them. Some companies don't see that until they're reminded. Same thing happened with a buddy of mine's duramax trans from them. Tried to screw him, he mentioned what I said above and they then decided they'd stand behind their product and help him.

To the OP ... who did your transmission work? Did they build up your 68 or did suncoast build it and the shop install it? Has the shop been able to tell you what codes or what is exactly wrong with your transmission?

What are your mods and how do you know you are running 900 hp?

My thoughts on this is because your truck is 900hp and the installer knows this, first thing out of the box it was hammered on which unfortunately prematurely killed your tranny.

The above is the most likely scenario, sure there could be another issue but i can honestly say if its built right and had ample time to learn it will hold the power.

I assume you bought it built from Suncoast?

How many miles were put on it before you got it?

How many miles did you put on it before it messed up?

What exactly does it do when you try to drive it?

Do you have a tuner where you can monitor line pressure? If so what is it doing while the tranny is acting up?

I have very little stroke with them when it comes to these kind of issues but ill see what i can do. You just need to understand 99.9% of the time when these things happen its hardly ever the fault of the transmission company. I know this for a fact!!! I myself have killed a few by trying to rush the learning process.

Also, line pressure/speed sensors will die for no reason. When this happens you will get hard funky shifts and then limp, if its bad enough it will full limp and then your done. If you keep on trying to drive it it will then kill the transmission.

Just a few things that may help....

Suncoast built it, shop installed it. Code 4th gear incorrect reading. Smaller set up on other truck made 837 hp

Put close to 800 miles on it, first 500 were breaking the new motor in so went really easy on it and as far as ripping on it 2nd gear roll on, made boost and went about 100 yds and it was toast. Overdrive clutches are smoked, no 4th,5th or 6th

Back to the original question, do you know that the truck was not hammered on on its maiden voyage?

Really sounds like it was slipped prior to what you think was its first hard pull. All would have seemed normal under normal driving until you hit it.

If the tranny drove and shifted fine with no ill effects, I highly doubt it was the fault of the tranny. Just my experiance man, not trying to cover for Suncoast at all.

Do you have any idea of how many if any miles were put on your truck before it was in your hands? This is a common issue, especially when the installers have no clue of how temperamental these units are when freshly built.

I was there for the the first trip, like I said it was a total motor build and shop did not want me to get on it for at least 500 miles
