I have a 2006 4 speed auto 5.9 3500 and am wondering about the advantages and if it is possible to swap one in.
How about what upgrades to the six speed prior to doing that? what would be the costs?:blues:

Suncoast is working on a kit. It will not be cheap at all.

ive read a bit about this as it interests me. most say your better off completely building the 48 and keepin it then to swap a 68 over. god only knows how much those trans (68's) go for. plus the conversion. and its VERY exspensive to build those 68 autos too.

be easier to do the 6.7/68RE package into the older 3rd gen as a package with 6.7 ECU, tranny PCM and all associated wiring harness.
dump the VGT turbo and put on twins, cam and smarty
leave the 5.9 emblems on it.
real 5.9 sneak attack killer.

the 6.7 6 speed trans havent seemed to hold the high hp as well--- many have swapped them out for the older 5.9 trans

If you were not going for all out power then it would be a nice swap once someone figures out all the electronics. Most members here assume that just because someone asks this question that they are building a race truck but some are just trying to make their trucks better without putting the fuel to them....

There was a pretty new 68re in the classifieds here a couple days ago for $2500 or something like that. If I had money to waste I would have bought it and waited for the kit. I had a 68RE in an 08 truck and it works way better than the 48re's I've driven in their stock state.....
