The 97 cummins diesel's had hydro-boost units. You can tell by looking at your master cylinder. If you have a unit between the master cylinder and the firewall that has several hydraulic lines from the power steering pump going to it you have a hydroboost unit instead of the vacuum booster. Diesels use the hydroboost unit because diesel engines make no vacuum. hope this helps.
