Of course I have to replace the timing cover from the KDP. Ive found some used timing covers for cheap but know what years are compatable with each other. Can I get a 93 cover for a 97?
If you took your truck to Cummins to have the case replaced and asked them to pull the cam they would laugh and tell you to take it somewhere else.i was also thinking of pulling the cam gear instead of the whole cam, anybody recomend one over the other?
Same questions Subscribing!!!!!!!!11thx again for the helpful info. i already love this site, you guys dont flame newbs for asking q's. i was reading the cam gear removal thread and was wondering how critical isthe back support on the cam when you reinstall the gear. i wasnt planning on having to use teamwork as to not punch out the back cam cover. is using the prybar on the back of the cam critical or just being extra cautious? and if somebody has a timing case for sale, please let me know.
in case anybody was wondering, im looking at buying a 70's Ford F250 crewcab 4x4 with a Cummins transplant from a 97 12V.
Very critical.was wondering how critical isthe back support on the cam when you reinstall the gear.
Spoke with mechanic who said it takes a good bit of force to push out that plug. If it can be pushed on by hand looks it would be ok. I have thought about using a can of co2 to shrink cam before putting the gear on! But would the temp change cause it to crack from cold to hot so fast?Very critical.
If the cam moves backwards while reinstalling the gear and pushes out the rear cam plug you will have to pull the engine to pound it back in.
