Hi all, im back again.
I bought a 1998.5 24Valve 5spd dually with 4.10s. Shortly after aquiring this truck a friend totalled his so i bought his entire drivetrain. I now have a 2001 24Valve motor with modifications and a NV 5600. I just recently swapped the rears and am having trouble getting wheels to fit. I have already bought the newer hub extensions for the front and 2 new 7hole dually wheels. Now his rears were from a 3/4 ton im assuming. What is the difference in a 3/4 ton rear vs a dually rear aside from the width? Is there something i can change to have my dually back or do i have to get a dually rear?
Thanks in advance

The early ones are real Dana 60 after that they changed to a cheaper version AFAIK.
I am sure someone will sort this out for you here.
Perhaps 1 ton wheels (offset) would be a lot different.

I was told that there was a diffenece between the 98-99 dually wheels compared to the 01-02 wheels so i bought 2 wheels had the tires mounted and that didnt help. I've been trying to compare part between the 2 thinking the calipers maybe different cause thats what the wheel hits before it seats. But im not buying anymore parts until i know for sure its the issue. These rears are stamped with the Dana logo on them.

When Dodge went to read disc brakes the wheels were changed for caliper clearance.

Ok. I have bought 2 of the newer style wheelis that are for a 01-02 but even they still wont bolt up. They are still hitting the caliper. I didnt know if a dually uses a smaller caliper that is slightly offset in its mounting or not.

Dually hubs are all made for offset wheels making the wheels centered facing each other at the end of the hub centering the weight distribution there. That also leaves the fronts inset. 01.5 went to disc and different shaped wheel to fit disc vs drum. No seven hole lugs though.

Bigfish i should have been more specific i didnt mean 7 lug i meant that they wheels i bought are for a 02 dually still the 8lug but they have the 7 hole design instead of the old 4 hole design on the 98-99. I can tell a big difference in the shape of the new wheels vs the old wheels. At a quik glance but rears 3/4 vs 1 ton look similar. I looked at a friends 01 dually and it looked like his calipers are thinner and sit in towards the center more, but i didnt know if that just the bracket design or if were the caliper mounts is different.

Does anyone know if i could get a set of 3rd gen 17" wheels. I only need a 1/4" clearance. I hate to do it cuz i have 6 brand new 16" tires but if it saves me from having to reswap rears i will buy the 17"s try to trade in my tires or sell them. Any thoughts on doing this?

I'll do some measuring this weekend to check. I also just read or saw a pic rather of the actual difference of the hubs between the 2. Looks like IMO im either gonna have to suck it up and have the old drum rear rebuilt unless i can find a trade for a dually rear

the disc rear should work, just need to swap caliper mounts and rotors if your has 03 brakes on it..... there is a thread here about converting.... did the fronts go right on?

did you use his brake stuff or yours? if you have the caliper mounts for 03 brakes and cant use them i might be interested in buying/trading for them.

On the front apparently there is a new style hub extension and an old style, i had to buy the new style extensions but they did go right on. Its a very small clearance but they do clear. All the brakes are what was on the rear when i got it. I know he put all new brakes on it last year when he put the rear under his truck. I asked him if he remembered what year he got the brakes for but he couldnt remember.
