Consensus is that it is not needed on a newer diesel. The ULSD is all that is required.

I squirt a bit in the tank every once in a while, just out of habit I guess. I been using the kind in the grey bottle since 99.

Gray bottle is for summer use. White bottle can be used year round.

I used it in every tank during the winter months mainly for the anti-gelling. Summer maybe once a month to keep things clean.

I've used that for years, switching between the winter and summer formulas. I use Howes now. Anyone can say what they want, but if you read anything abut the EPA, the changes in our fuel isn't helping with lubrication. I use it in my truck and my E320.

The Dieselplace.com did a lubricity study a while back to find out which additives are the best for lubricity, and the worst. Here is a link.
Lubricity Additive Study Results - Diesel Place : Chevrolet and GMC Diesel Truck Forums
It's good reading, and very scientific study. I started using Opti-lube after reading this study, as it gives you the best lubricity next to bio diesel, and does contain Cetane for added fuel economy.
Just beware, if your still running the DPF, you can cause more soot from adding any additive.
Interesting fact. A lot of the additives in this study actually made lubricity worse. Just an FYI. ")

I run Howes here in the winter and switch between it and the Power Service Diesel Kleen in the summer.
