I recently purchased a 2010 diesel Crew Cab and after reading this and other forums I am wondering if I made a mistake. It seems that there are a lot of problems; steering, brake controllers, transmissions, DPF(whatever that is), regen:)confused013:), terrible fuel mileage, service lights. I know that some new vehicles have problems but it seems that these trucks have more than their fare share. Did I make a mistake or is the truck good and dependable? This is the first diesel and Dodge that I have owned and I am now getting worried.

Whoa whoa whoa. No you didn't make a mistake. The DPF is an exhaust filter. Search for DPF and regen and you'll find all the info you need. Regen is used to clean the DPF.

Like any first run vehicle, there'll be some bugs that simply get worked out as production continues. I don't care how hard they try, the OEMs cannot duplicate every scenario that vehicles will encounter. They do a good job, but its impossible.

I must have missed all the lights, and the steering problem, and the trans problems...

You'll be fine. Last three trucks I owned were all D/A's combo's and after spending some time on this forum, after purchasing sig. truck, I felt the same way, at first, as you do now. Having owned the truck for about three months now and towing sig. 5er more than several times in the mountains, I love this truck and am feeling pretty good about it. Only time it's been back to the dealership since I purchased it was to show off all the accessories I've added to it, (tinted windows, mudflaps, chrome gas cap, window visors, bug deflector, sunroof front wind deflector..etc....haven't had the first problem with it.

DPF stands for "diesel particulate filter"...when a certain amount of "soot" and other unburned diesel "particulates" has built up in the DPF, you go through a regeneration, exhaust temps get really hot burning up these particulates to clear out the filter....mpg at this point REALLY suffers at this point, BUT the DPF has been around since 07' and are also on Ford and Chevy/GM diesels...EPA emissions crap.

MPG "could" be better, but comparing this dually to my 07.5 D/A Dually, it's close to the same mpg and I've only got about 2700 miles on the truck.

Again, give it some time with the truck like I did...I was feeling the same way you were after reading a lot of post on here, but there are also a lot of positive post...The Ram is great looking inside and out and the CTD is one heck of a diesel...this truck is a towing beast.....

I love this truck

Thanks for all the replies. I feel somewhat better with my decision. I just hope that the fuel mileage will increase with time. As for the brake controller; if it dose not work for me I guess that I'll try to install an after market.

One thing you will see, especially on a car forum are "issues." Just think how many people don't even come on to one of these forums unless they have a problem. There are tons of guys out there running these trucks (like my dad) who will never get on a forum and never has had a problem with his diesel. I really think that the problems stand out sometimes, but if you had everyone starting threads all the time about how much they love their trucks they would far outweigh the "I've got a problem" threads.

Mine has only been back for a leaking transfer case and it's fine now with almost 14K. No other problems. I have had several new cars in the last 4-5 years (Nissan, Infiniti, Honda, Toyota) and they all have issues. I don't even expect to have a problem free new car now. Sad but true.

No need to worry. The new trucks are great. Had mine 9 months and only issue i have had is with the brake controller not working up to my standards. I tow once per week at least with the truck, do lots of backraod towing and driving. I also drive it to work. As far as fuel economy there is a cure for that( DPF/Regen delete) and then economy is in the 20-23 mpg area. Haven't heard of any transmission problems( programming could be better). I love my truck and love driving it, i will be missing it when i park it for the winter next month:(

If it doesn't work, take it back and maake them fix it. You bought a truck that everything should work on. Thats what the warranty is for

I have 3 years of use on my 07 and it is the best truck that I have EVER OWNED. All new vehicles may Dave a few glitches, but most of the complained problems are from MODIFICATIONS that messed up a wonderful truck. The death wobble issues are normally on the trucks with a cheap lift kit. As for mileage, it is still much better than my last gasser!

6500 miles and no reason to see the dealer...Fuel mileage is about the same as my 04.5 old Dodge diesel. So I'm ok with that...Good luck.

You must remember most of the people who are having drive train problems are guys who are trying to put monster power to the ground. They are stacking chips and trying to do things with their trucks that the manufacturer never intended. Cummins is the toughest of the light-duty truck engines and I have been told by one of the top site sponsors that the 6.7 was designed to run wide open all day long (industrial design). Drive your truck with some sense and just know if you decide to make alterations and it breaks YOU must accept responsibility. Most on this site will tell you if you stop pumping crap back into the motor you are going to increase the life. I have read countless entries by people who have never taken their truck back to the "stealership" once their DPF and EGR fell off of the truck. Guys who have put hundreds of thousands of miles on their trucks after DPF and EGR deletes. Drive it like you have some sense and you will get years of enjoyment out of it.

If you don't read on this forum, you won't have any problems....:hehe:Take it all with a big grain of salt. These trucks are great.:party018:

Yes you did!

You made a mistake by asking a question like that on an internet forum...:buttkick:
I hate to be a cynic, but come on... You just spent tens-of-thousands of dollars and then decided to find out what you were buying:$: Doing a little research will save you a lot of ridicule, and maybe some money. However, as far as the truck is concerned, you should have no more problems than with any other diesel truck. Peace.

Mello what seal was leaking on your transfer case? I just noticed that mine has a small leak. I have an appointment for next fri. I can't tell where it's coming from. I am hoping I don't have to leave it and can wait since i live 60 miles from the dealeraship.
