Has anyone who’s been deleted for an extended amount of time (years) re-installed emissions equipment? If so have you had any issues with the def system not being used for a long time? Crystal build up in the lines, pump, etc.. what’s the best way to clear it? When re-installing the egr cooler is there any special way of purging the air, I read somewhere it needs to be purged prior to running the engine or it will crack.
I’m being recruited to assist a family friend re install everything in the near future on his 2013, he has all the original parts with the exception of the dpf which will be replaced with a new aftermarket.
I have never re-installed emissions, however am very proficient going the other way. Am I missing anything else that might be a headache or need to be replaced? I’m trying to plan any issues before hand. I checked around for some write ups on re installs but only found a few discussions, maybe I missed something?

Who makes an aftermarket DPF, and if so, that will be one of your big issues.

So I clarified The dpf is not truly aftermarket, and technically not new. It’s an aftermarket company that refurbished what I would assume was an oem one? My primary concern is the def system sitting for so long.

If the def parts were not flushed with water before deleting, you might be in for some headaches.
I made sure to clean all that crap well with water before it headed for my shed, just incase it was ever needed again

To the best of my knowledge it was left with def in it (for about 7 years) the tank was left in the truck. What if anything dissolves def crystals? Can it be flushed with distilled water? I was thinking of removing the pump and putting power to it on a bench to flush it, the line would need the injector connected to flush the line I’m guessing?

I had to remove the tank and bracket/cross member, last year on my 2015 2500 in prep for a truck camper that fell through. As i have a 2 door, the tank and bracket are in the way of the tie down mount..
...
That said, it was easy dropping the tank using a floor jack to lower it slowly. The tank was said to be empty by the person that did the delete, but tank was half or more full for about 3 or 4 years. I dumped the tank, and saved the pump. 0 Crystles in anything i encountered, and the def looked good as new. I dont have storage for any of the stuff, so tank and mount got tossed, but again kept the pump incase i have a friend that needs it. A 3lb hammer and large punch will take the pump cover off if you dont have the wrench, looked easy to flush out, and the pump was easy to wash and looked very good.
...
None of my wires and such were weather coated for a reinstall, but laying under the truck for maintanance and have grease
able U joints so i look over every thing every service and when i grease the U joints, they look like they can be cleaned right up and a little plugged back in.
