ive got a 96' 3500 2wd with the death wobble. someone told me the steering box will wear out and thats what i need to replace. i didnt know if this was what caused it or if i can replace the trac bar intsead or do i need to replace both.

you need to replace what's worn out. have someone wiggle the wheel back and forth and watch under the front end and see whats loose. watch the output shaft on the steering box for side to side movement.

you can turn the steering a whole half turn each way before it catches

I had that happen to me scared the outta me. I got a lukes link, and an alignment seem to fix the problem.

the lukes link is a very economical way to fix the track bar. ive used it many times with no problems. you can also use it on tie rod ends

steering box brace and take the play out of your steering box using the service bulletin.

some 98 99 heavy duty t style steering would help as well

I had it when I bought my truck..Got new track bar, alignment and tires that fixed it and I have 281k on my truck.
