6.7 with 23k miles... yesterday I picked up truck after having the BD PMT installed. As I left town heading to Phoenix(200 miles) I finally got the 100% cat notice on over head. I do have a lot of idle time on this truck. I made it to Phx, but when I started back home today. I lost power, started bucking, noticed some black smoke then stalled. After advisor got done telling me that this is caused by to much idling. Even tells me the truck sitting in the bay next to mine is in for the same thing but no chip. Tells me the chip caused this (particle & cat clogged). I'm finding it hard to believe that my programmer was able to clog my exhaust system in 250 miles set on level 1 for mileage, did gain 4.5mpg. Does anyone else think it's the programmer causing this.

They are now telling me it will cost over $6000 for new exhaust parts plus $1000 for labor if Dodge declines claim for warranty. I checked with the dealership in my city, which quoted me $3285 from turbo back including muffler.

I agree, when book shows 2.5 hrs to install full exhaust from turbo back.

If they want to be buttheads about it tell them where to stick it and buy a new aftermarket exhaust and have someone else put it on, I mean warranty is already voided right? No harm done then...

I don't think a programmer would have done that in that short of a trip. The dealer probaly will give you crap, but its against the law for them to not honor the warranty because you used an after market product. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act of 1975 protects you and forces the dealer toprove that the part in question caused the damage. You said an identical truck was at the dealership with the same problem without a chip so that tells me its not the programmer. You have a great case if the dealer does not take care of it.

Sounds like a really good excuse to get the DPF kit and be done with it...

Thats rediculous but running a chip on a truck with the DPF in place will cause extra soot. Yes many have had issues without a chip but they could point to it as the cause (as they did). If they decline you then just remove the crap and run it wide open.

Although I am bone stock and don't plan to change for some time I agree with the others. Call BS and ditch the current set up for the DPF Delete systems. Sounds like those that have are really enjoying the gains.

Why didn't you pull out the PMT. YOu just have to press a couple of buttons, unplug it and remove it out of the truck. You may have shot yourself in the foot on this one. If they decline your warranty your VIN # will be flagged, Its up to Dodge/Cummins on how much of your warranty you may lose but good god. 20 minutes of your time and you would not be having this problem.

When you first install a PMT on the 6.7. They will make a ton of smoke. More and any 5.9 i have seen. Like a Super Modified Sled Truck. ITs alot, but it will tapper off alot to.

So more than likely the PMT plugged the filter faster than your truck could clean it. Try to get them to force a regen on your truck and run with that. Take the PMT OFF until your truck is fixed.

Again i dont think yall understand how much Smoke a 6.7 will Make for the first 30 minutes with the PMT on your truck. Granted i have the MP8 too, but even with out it on. It was alot of freaking smoke. When i got home the truck had changed some how in the software where it does not smoke like that. I really thought i broke something in the CR or engine because there was no cloud of death any more. I was checking for fuel leaks, rise in the crank case but nothing.

So it is possible to plug a filter in a short quick trip. If the PMT was just installed

While that is true it doesn't really work out that way. Laws are enforced in court and not at the dealership. They know this well. So if you use a programmer they may deny the warranty claim. You can go to court and yes the burden is on them, but you gotta spend the time and money to go to court and sue. Good luck with that!

I ran my edge for 20,000 miles before the 4" tbe and never had any % of catalyst full come on the overhead.

I dont think yall realize how much smoke the PMT makes when you first install it on the 6.7. Its not like the Edge , Mp8 , or Pup. those three combine dont equal what the PMT puts out in the very beginning. It will tapper off to manageable smoke. But the smoke is along horrible for the first bit maybe 30 mintues to a 1hr and then the truck will adjust. I could not even see how the truck would be able regen with the amount of smoke.

I wish i could of gotten a video of when i first installed it, yall would understand then.

But anyways, good luck to you getting your stuff fixed. at the end of the day your warranty should not be voided or anything to that nature. Its crap of the dealership to throw the PMT in your face to void it.

I dont know how accurate the PYRO is but i can tell you its nothing for me to hit 1700 degrees

I'd find another dealer. Labor rate around here is $90-100/hr. And there's no way that entire exhaust system costs $3500. Although I would have never believed that a vaccum pump cost more than my injection pump but I was wrong on that to.

UPDATE: Denied claim...$7845 to start. Said the PDF & cat's were melted, area rep was ok with claim but I was told Engineers said no!

I have found the SHPerfomance "off road" exhaust system. Is that what everyone is talking about? That removes DPF and cat's... do I need to worry about getting busted for no cat when I trade this in? What is the DPF delete?
