I changed fuel filters in a friends 2018 2500 yesterday. First change not done at dealer. I recommended he stay with mopar filters. I was surprised to find baldwin filters in both front and back. Would it be normal for a Chrysler dealership doing service work to use something other than mopar? I checked filtration specs on front filter, <4 is what they listed, but the mopar is 3 microns I’m pretty sure.
Would use of Baldwin cause issues with warranty?
Should I take this as an endorsement for Baldwin filters or a warning about this particular dealership, which has a sketchy reputation in our area?

What I was thinking… he’s almost out of warranty but had them do changes so he would be safe in warranty if issues came up, and the dealer hadn’t even been using mopar parts.
I’m sure they would claim supply chain issues if you cornered them, but I priced filters through them not too long ago and they quoted me mopar. Crazy prices , but mopar.

It could be just when he had them done they did not have any its not a common thing but it does happen. Atleast they are using a high quality filter as a substitute not some garbage

If you have a receipt they cant deny it hell even an aftermarket filter cant be denied warranty unless they prove the filter failed
Does the receipt say Baldwin filter? I’m not trying to argue, just sayin dealerships are like insurance company’s, they’re always looking for an excuse to deny you. At that same dealer, there might not be a problem….at another, it “could” be.

I’d say a warning. If it’s not stamped Mopar, it’s possible they could hassle him on warranty.
Harley Davidson had a huge lawsuit brought against them for similar behavior of denying warranty work for use of off brand filters. Magnuson Moss act of 1974 states "Warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty."

I tried Baldwin filters and no dice. Never figured out if it was the front or rear filter. Loped and blew white smoke. Went back factory and no problems since.

Cut one of those Mopar filters apart on the next oil change. My warranty is basically up and I will be switching to Fleetguard. I watched a video of new filters cut apart and I couldn’t believe how cheap and crappy the Mopar filter is compared to Fleetguard and Amsoil. After my last change I cut my Mopar filter apart and found exactly the same crappy filter media inside. I have my last Mopar filter installed now but once due I’m switching to Fleetguard. It has been the assumption that Fleetguard makes filters for Mopar. After the video I watched, Fleetguard is defiantly constructed with different media than what comes in Mopar filters.

Its been my understanding that Mopar Nano Net fuel filters (none spin on type filters) are rebranded Fleetguard filters not sure who makes the spin on type for Mopar...

This is also a way for others to make money

I don't suppose you got your mopar filter from Ebay/Amazon did you?

Mopar doesn’t actually make these filters. They are rebranded filters from other sources.

The front fuel filter and oil filter are fleetguard. The water sep rear filter used to be Racor, not sure who makes them now.

Not an abnormal practice. The SRT branded oil filter on my 6.4 Challenger is a re-branded Wix.

Theres quite a bit of research on the internet of guys who cut these things apart and compare to other brands to figure out who’s making what.

Used Baldwin, Wix, Racor in my '06 Duramax without issue. I've only done one dual fuel filter change on my Ram. Can't remember if they're Mopar or Fleetguard but I have a few of each for upcoming services. Or maybe it's Mopar for the oil and Fleetguard for the fuel filters. Either way I'm not too worried.
Just be glad OP....dealer could've used a FRAM!!

No clue what the receipt said but the dealer does not deny or approve warranty they do not have that power everything goes through FCA and if you do have an issue with warranty coverage it would be an easy win in small claims court
