Okay the first time the indicator came on was at 4500k and now it just came on again at 9500k? The reccommended service interval is 12000k so why does this not work? I changed my oil at 8k and will do it as such until the deletes are complete.

I know how do set it but I can't comprehend why it is telling me to change the oil every 5k?

They dont run off of just mileage. It is calculated by a bunch of things and the computer thinks it needs to be changed based off of your driving.

Exactly. The oil life interval is duty cycle based. The more city driving, short trips and idling you do, the shorter your oil life will be. Hook up to a 15,000 pound 5th wheel and hit the highway and set the cruise, the light won't come on until you hit 12096 km, or 7500 miles.

I never let mine go over 5k anyway (even on the 5.9). So I wouldn't be complaining. At 5k the oil has so much soot suspended in it, it needs to be changed. In '05 and '06 one of their selling points was a 15k drain interval. What a joke that was.....

I think that this is the most accurate. My driving is mixed driving and I don't know how it is calculating it but it is not correct. I don't understand how a chevy cobalt can have an oil life indicator with % rating but these trucks can't??? I will be changing my oil every 8k until the deletes are done. Once they are done, and my bypass filters are in it will be extended using CAT SOS OIL analysis to determine service intervals.

Yeah my first light came on at 6K with mixed highway/city driving and no towing. Next light came on at 3,500K with all towing almost all highway. I don't trust it.

I used to change my 5.9L every 5K. That oil was just as sooty as this oil is. The first oil change message was at 4,100 miles and now I'm close to 8K mileage. I stocked up on oil filter and fuel filter. I'll change my fuel filter every other oil change. I save the receipts and document every thing in my owners manual.

I just changed my oil 300 miles ago and now it is telling me it is time again... WTF? :confused013:
just because you changed it doesnt mean the light resets itself. i changed my oil at 3000,7000, an just now at 9500 where i replaced my air filter an fuel filter.

if you change your oil when before the truck tells you to then dont worry about it when the light comes on. I just reset the light to go back off an im going to be changing my oil every 5000 regardless of when the light comes on.

I change every 4,000. I just don't like all the soot in my oil
