Here is a view of something I been playing around with a little as time allowed. I wanted to mount CB antennas on the mirrors.

Don't have these finished b ut have them mounted for a look see... I need to paint these with the black bake on powder coat. You guys tell me what you think on how I did this with 1/8"X 1-1/2" Stainless flatbar...

I toyed here to see what it looks like just bead blasted. I think it needs to be black. Want stick out so bad maybe???

Its gotten kind of stormy here this afternoon so the PIC's are hard to see well... What do you guys think??? I am thinking to black these with the bake on powder coat and take some of the sore thumb view off of the mounts...

They look good. Can you get a closer pic of them mounted? I would like to see better what you have going on there.

I never have been able to find any kind of mount for these new style mirror swing arm and the roll over head. First off I changed out the mirrow to plain flat glass and then added the round large fish-eye.

I tore up my magnet mount K40 about a month ago and I decided to go at this on the mirrow mounts. I just have these mounted on the swing arm with geardrive hose clamps. I am going to see if I can black all this stainless to take the attention from them. They just are too loud on the black swing arm.

I stuck 2" Wilson's top loaded fiberglass antenna's on them and I can drive under the carport on the front porch with just a slight tag on the joist, so when I go into the shop, its no problem at all there. I just hope I can get enough ground plain to match out the antenna's for my radio, its got a little bite to it, so its best setup right or it gets hot and fast when keyed up driving down the road...

You'll need to run a wire from the mount to a suitable ground in order to keep the radio happy.

Ciam,

Yes, your right dude... These antenna's even came with a wire with an eye on it to do just that as well. I didn't really want to just clamp these to the swingarm, but with them having wiring in them for heat and adjustments, I just was not sure I wanted to risk drill and tap into the frame of these. They are really great mirrors since I put flat glass on both and added the ugly big round fisheye LOL...Work awesome while trying to back my GN trailer in and around places at my dealers as I do...

I have yet to get the co-phasing harness even out of the package yet, but do plan on running a ground wire with the coax from each antenna. If I thought I could drill a hole large enough to get the coax through and into the swing arm I would run that down inside it and into the cab. I am just not comfy with that thought LOL.

I will get some much closer PIC's , heck ever time I did zoom in all I could see was all the damn bugs from last weeks runs LOL... I will clean off the swing arms somewhat while the black powder is being baked on today... Man all the darn yard work this weekend has really shortened up my time for the stuff I wanted to get done on the truck.
I still have a list from hell to do on this truck...

Looks like some nice brackets Jeb! You might want to PM BBram to find out how he ran his coax. He posted a pic awhile ago with his antenna's mounted on his mirrors. Good luck with your mods Jeb!

I like how he routed his coax...I thought that you might want to see that the coax can be installed in a clean way. Keep up with the great fab work Jeb!

I'd like to do something like that when I get the money... and the foldable towing mirrors :thud:

Does that setup get better reception with 4' antennas than having the antennas on the bed?
