I am in the process of making a mattress for the back seats when folded flat as I plan to sleep here when I get tired on long road trips in between hotel stays. Has anybody else done anything like this? If so, can I please get some pictures. I have plans drawn out, but want to see what others are doing before I waste too many materials. Thanks.

Oh no.... I want to make a BED. :) Not because I will use it much, but because it would be pretty darn cool. I'll even have my Harley Davidson sheets and blanket to go back there. Also trying to figure out a way to mount curtains.

I don't understand how you guys fit to sleep in the back of a Mega...I test drove a Mega and it didn't seem that much bigger. How tall are you? Do you lay straight across?
I am 5'7". I can lay pretty close to straight across. Back when I had my '92 I would sleep in the back with the jumper seats flipped up and I had a few inches on each end. Haven't actually slept in this truck YET as I have only had it 2 weeks and haven't made any trips yet.

I have 2 memory foam dog beds that take up the entire area, I think they are 30 inches x 50 inches each and 3 inches thick. Very comfortable, dog likes them too. Just don't get the shredded foam, it's cheaper but not as nice nor will it last as long.
Nice thing about two pads vs one is you can stack them if you need a seat up in back...and just easier to move in and out.
If I remember I'll take some picks but it's not rocket science just two big pads side by side....well and covered by a dog blanket

The one I am planning on making is actually a 2 piece unit. Each piece will fold in half, back section will fold under front and will stay connected to the head rests via webbing with grommets. They will fold up with the seats and you won't even know they are there. Will also still have full reclining range. There will be velcro securing strips to join both pieces together so they aren't sliding apart. In my head this works.

My boss has a mega; he uses a twin size pillow top air mattress for the back seat. Uses the little cigarette lighter tire pump to blow it up, and it deflates, folds, and stows nicely in the toolbox when not in use. I've toyed with the idea of making a hammock for the back seat of my quad but I'm not convinced the headrests (even all four of them) would take the weight of a human sized person or much height over the above-mentioned 5'7". But if you're more average- than super-size, I imagine it might work... Just a thought.

The mega is big when u fold the seats down, not as much when the seats are up, although the rears recline quite a bit.

It's when storing behind the seat or the extra room you get (like an extra 5', 1'x5') is when the mega is.....mega

Sounds like what you have thought up should work. I wouldn't be too concerned about the cushions moving apart, at least mine don't they are quite heavy, unless you just use some lightweight foam.
So do you plan on making it split 60/40 so one seat can go up at a time? Or when you say two piece unit do you mean it just folds at the rear seat back where it goes to the flat, but it's one big pad that goes across both seat backs?

I had some custom mattresses made for my RV from a company here in Houston. I gave them the dimensions, thickeness I wanted, and the cover material and they shipped it to me. They were great to work with, I wish I could remember the companies name!

Any of these by chance?

I tried Google! None of the names popped out at me so I did the next best thing, I asked my wife. She was able to remember the name by going back and looking in our RV records. Smart woman there...

The Mattress Factory - Fort Worth Texas

They are actually in Ft Worth so I think that is what messed me up when I Googled it. They did a great job, the cost was much lower than typical RV matresses and they are fully cusomizable.

I bought a Cabelas deluxe camp bed for my truck. They make two sizes and you can roll them up with everything on then and store them out of the way.

Ive gone to a foam shop and had custom dog beds made for all my trucks. You can pick your thickness of foam and then cover material. It all gets cut to exact size. Usually costs around 120$ for the good stuff. Money well spent. The dog loves it and so do I when I need a nap on the road.

Buy a memory foam mattress topper from Costco cut it to size. Better than foam , probably cheaper and really comfortable.
