I read an article about a guy that had a billet steel BLOCK made. Yes, you read that right. At over 1900 hp he had trashed several billet steel rods, but the stock crank was still doing fine.
Maximum torque is the true limiting factor because torque is directly proportional to the amount of twist the crank has to endure.
2000 ft/lbs is about the limit on the stock crank, some break at 1900 ft/lbs, some are fine till 2200 ft lbs. The common rule of thumb is that 2000 is the limit for a stock crank.
