Ok, so I have found this to be strange, but doesn't affect performance on my dodge. Last night I started it, (wasn't plugged in but it was 45* yesterday) opened the rear drivers side door and walked to the rear of the truck to grab some tools from work. The truck then coughs, and goes back to running normal. I walk back to the drivers seat, idle it up and it runs normal....it has coughed a few times before, just wondering if anyone knows what this is? :confused013: Any feedback welcome!!

Could it have been your heater grids kicking on?

My truck will do the same thing pretty cold here like 20s. I have no fuel mods but I do have a glacier intake plenium but not sure if my heater grid is still there I bought the truck with this already done. If I let it idle it happens like every 5-10 sec. but I hear like a lil click under hood right before it happens. How do you idle up? I heard something like turn cruise on then set then then acc for idle up but it does not work for me.:banghead:

Thanks I thought I had an injector miss :kaboom: Your reply will make me sleep better. I really think my heater grid is mia the truck takes for ever to warm up and will not warm just idling. Thanks

if it was an injector issue, it would be more often than just a random cough... I think the 06/07's just have so many damn modules... everything is on a friggin' NETWORK plugged into a module

every once in a while it just gets tired of being so complicated and coughs! LOL

I'm not too concerned about it, I think it has done it like 3 times since I have owned it (09/10) only when its cold outside.
Its a 07 5.9L, cone air filter, 90hp injectors, Smarty PoD set on #3 for daily driving, straight piped. It has other MODS, but none that would apply to it coughing. It doesn't have any fuel system upgrades yet.
Drunk on Diesel - I agree!!
Big Na$ty - The idle up option has to be turned on (by your dealership) and you also need to put a grounding wire on #22 pin on the ECM. Search high idle wire, you will find a lot to tell you more about how to do it. Yes, then when you start it and let the oil pressure come up, you turn the cruise on and hit set. Mine automatically idles up to 1100 rpm, but if you keep hitting the accel button it will idle clear up to 1500 rpm.
Thanks for all the input, sounds like a common occurance!

I had the same deal, I thought it hadnt been activated in the computer, turns out I was wrong.

Dont touch the break pedal while you do this, it cuts high idle and wont let you start it if the break is depressed, I found out the hard way lol.

Like you said, turn on cruise, then press the set button, should idle up. Then you can press accel button to idle higher, and decel to lower idle.

If it still doesnt work for you then you will have to visit the stealership and have em turn the high idle feature on. Should already be on the truck since it gets perty cold where you are I immagine.

Hope this helped!

A smarty will turn high idle on for you as well.

All you have to do is load it on your truck, then unload it and high idle will work. (You can use your buddy's Smarty for this if you don't intend to buy one.)

I am pretty new to the Smarty, do you have to set it up on the smarty, or does it just automatically turn it on without you adjusting the settings? Mine was turned on by the dealership for free when I bought it. Also, when you set the truck back to stock...isn't it supposed to go back to stock, including the idle up? Just trying to understand the concept......
