I'm trying to decide on how much to lower the stall on my converter. Mods are in my sig, any input or experience would be appreciated. I've been told anywhere from 1500 to 1950... Truck is a weekend warrior, street truck, with occasional towing. Thanks

I run an 1800 stall in our 06 and have ran almost identical mods to what you have now in the past. Had no problem getting on top of the charger at the line and drives very nice on the street. Never tried towing with it, but I am sure it could be done.

Nothing wrong with stock stall in a high quality converter either.

I run a 1500-stall and it really helps getting a big turbo going. Its not so good for racing when trying to spool, but for a DD that likes to throw down on occasion its very efficient and yields very good manners.

We could not keep a stock stall converter in our truck. The stock stator is so inefficient that we saw as much as 1000rpm drop when locking the converter in 2nd on the track. This puts a huge amount of stress on the lockup clutch and would kill it in short order. Since switching to the 1800 stall stator we only drop about 300-400 rpm on lockup and the converter has been holding great with 50+ passes where we were only getting 15 or so out of a stock stall converter.

Isn't stock stall 2000rpms?

The exact stall I'm changing to.

Thanks for the input, Phil is building my converter and I've decided to go with 1600 stall. I will report back on my opinion when I get it back together. Les I would think a lower stall would help get on boost easier when staging?

The lower stall makes it harder for the truck to power through the converter and get on top of the charger. With my 75 it seems that 1600rpm is the sweet spot. once you pass that rpm on the line it comes up quick. You have to rely more on heat to get the charger going instead of the added flow from rpm.

I think mine is 1400. I like mine except I don't like the last shift at WOT. I don't use a lock up switch yet but I'll drop from 3200rpm down to 2300RPM. I think the issue in my 03 is it goes into overdrive and lock up at the same time. Anyone else notice this in the 03's?

Yep Cody is right...its initially harder to spool, but once you hit the "Spot" its just fine.

I started off with a 2400rpm stall, dropped to stock or a bit less. I probably could have gone a bit lower, but plan on going to a bigger single sooner than later.

I like my 17 blade stock stall, comes on boost in about 5 seconds on the line and launches a lot harder than my 15 blade left cut ever did. 15 psi netted a 1.66 60', at a better track I'm sure it would've gone 1.5's with about 17-18psi. Driving manners are awesome, it's cleaner than the 15 blade and just runs a lot cooler, it obvious that it's a lot looser but it makes it feel like it doesn't struggle to come up on rpm like the 15 blade.
