2019 Ram 3500 HO. When it was new it seemed to regen about once every week and a half. Now it regens daily sometimes twice a day. It seemed like it picked up in April when they applied the VB6 emissions flash. I took it to the dealership 3 times. They drove it around town for like 10 miles and would call back saying they couldn't duplicate. The last time i picked it up it started a regen and the check engine light came on. I took it back and they pulled code P2459 (DPF regeneration frequency) they brought it back in and said well you only have 8% oil life left and that must be why. I reminded them that they just changed the oil and fuel filters 4k miles ago and they obviously didn't reset the maintenance interval.

So they begrudgingly looked into it deeper and said they have to replace the dpf pressure sensor. They replaced it Monday and now it regens even more. Now when the filter shows 1/4 restriction it starts a regen. I called them back and they asked if i let them finish. I told them 80 percent of them time they finish but if it starts when I am almost home I am not going to drive down the freeway another 35-40 minutes. The majority of my mileage is highway miles I drive about 40 miles to work on the highway. So now I have to take it back on the 17th. I really think the DPF is plugged but I dont think they want to replace it. They asked if i put any fuel additives in it and I told them I add power service at every fillup. I expected them to blame it but they said that shouldnt cause any issues. Anyone else have any problems like this?

Mine regens about every 30 miles. And when it was an occasional thing I didn't mind driving a little longer to let it finish but I am not going to waste my time when there is obviously something wrong. And I have had it regen for 115 miles and only burned a quarter of filter off on the way to Salt Lake the other day.

Some people won’t like to hear this, but if the dealer and FCA with their infinite wisdom can’t figure out why your truck is doing a regen so often, then it’s time to take a course of action that is frowned upon by many (political entities included).

Oh its getting deleted but I am just researching tuners etc right now and I will let em replace the DPF. Its kind of a matter of principle right now. They designed it and sold it, they can stand by it. I dont live in an emissions area so I am not at the mercy of an annual emissions inspection.

I had a new '14, and a new '17, 100k miles driven between them, and have never, ever been able to detect when a regen was happening. I always thought there should be an indicator light or something, so you could tell when it's happening. So far, it's just been one less thing to worry about....but, I'm getting ready to order a '21 this fall, third time's a charm maybe.

It has a filter status on the screen in the dash and when it goes into regen it puts "Automatic Regen in Progress" on the screen. This will be the 5th time the dealership has had the vehicle on Thursday. I love the truck outside of this problem. In the last month the dealership has had it for a week and a half. They will get it figured out and then I can go back to loving this truck.

Well just to follow up on this in case anyone else is having similar problems. The truck went back to the dealership again today. They called a few minutes ago and told me they found the problem. Turbo blew a seal and pushing oil into exhaust. Started noticing frequent regens about 18k miles and its got 25k miles on it. So she's getting a new turbo. Glad they were able to get it figured out and glad I hadn't deleted it yet 😅

Owners that jump in with both feet into the delete pond right away on a new truck are really spinning that roulette wheel of despair and your’s is a great testament to that.

Yeah. I probably would have never known the turbo was leaking oil if I deleted it right away. And replacing it would have been on my dime. I have my delete pipe and my tuner but I will wait until I know this issue is resolved.

Just had my EGR cooler, turbo, and particulate filter, replaced at different times starting with the EGR cooler. Now my particular filters showing full again. While traveling, I will go into regeneration for about 30 minutes and then no regeneration for 17 minutes then regeneration back on when particulate filter level is about 48%.
Anyone else have these issues? This doesn’t seem right as far as being in regen a lot. Now it is saying filter full see Dealership . Anyone else experience this issue with a 2020 dodge ram 3500?
