Ok guys, looking for some 'advice' on a potential used truck purchase...
I have a 2002 that is absolutely a toy truck; Ppumped, billet S480 single, DD clutch, etc....
I also have a 2006 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4 with the Hemi... only has 78,000 miles on the clock but I do have a loan on it as I bought it used in 2010. This truck is the family truckster. It's a nice truck, looks and drives great but gets poor fuel mileage... I've been very minimalistic on the vehicle because I've always held out that I'd most likely end up in a Mega Cab diesel sooner rather than later especially if the price was right. I have wheels and tires that will swap right over and taillights that will fit a 2006...
Well, one of my local dealers has recently taken in two Mega Cab diesel trades and both are 5.9's. I haven't actually gone to look at or drive them so I don't know particulars other than what they put on the online inventory. Anyhow, one is a 2006 with 138,000 miles and the other is a 2007 with 150,000 miles. Both trucks are 'priced' the same and the price seems to be in line with what KBB and NADA are saying for their age and mileage. Perhaps more importantly they're prices I'd be willing to negotiate on.
I'm not looking for a truck to mod the heck out of... will do a straight pipe and maybe a small tuner but I don't need to buy another money pit, I have the 2002 for that.
The two things that have me waffling the most are the mileage (I'm fully aware of Cummins longevity) and the 48RE trans. So my questions are what kind of longevity have people been getting with the common rail fuel system(pump and injectors) on otherwise stock trucks and how well has the 48RE held up to the day to day abuse truck owners throw at them in stock condition? So lets hear it...
