I have had my truck for coming up on 4 years. It is a 5 speed manual and I use it mostly as a daily driver but tow with it about once a week. I replaced the clutch on it two years ago (it was trashed!) and went with a stock replacement  I thought that was good enough for what I need. Since I replaced the clutch I have been very careful with it, I speed shift and I think I have taken care of the clutch as best I can. Well I just made a 1600 mile trip and had some help driving and I am pretty sure my "help" has trashed my clutch. He was slow getting off the clutch, would rev it up before letting off the clutch while shifting, would be in 3rd at about 8 mph, and I can't remember what else but it made for a long painful trip. Not getting into the conversation we had about how to shift a manual but it was not pretty :buttkick: .

Anyway, my clutch is now slipping when I launch in 2nd. I haven't done much with it other than drive across town when I noticed it was slipping, I pretty much freaked out and parked it. How much longer do you think I have on the clutch? Should I just replace it now? Is there any adjustment that I can do to it? Is there anything else that might have been damaged by my "help"? What would you recommend I put in it when I do replace it? I don't want to spend too much on the clutch but I don't want to replace it any time soon either. Sorry for all of the questions! Thanks

Replace clutch now. It could give out completelly in a very difficult place.
Use stock if must or perhaps some clutch builder can come up with a little more holding for very little extra money.

Thanks, I will start looking to replace it tomorrow. Is the dual disk worth it? I don't mind upgrading if it will help out.

what does it sound like in the cab when it slips? I think mine is slipping but I can't decide if it is the clutch for sure or not. I get a sort of growl/shriek from the tranny sometimes when I take off :confused013:

It makes a little bit of a growling sound as my foot is coming off the clutch but more than anything it just feels really different. When I let my foot all the way off the clutch in gear the truck is very slow to take off ad then it catches. It is almost like if u drag coming off the clutch and it slips. Hope that helps

Your exactly right it will make growling type sound and when you let the clutch out it wont fully engage right away.
Getting a dual disc completely depends on what you want to do with the truck if you plan on modding it i would definatly get a SB 3250 DD but if you gonna keep low mods on it and use it for a DD and pull here and there then a Single disc willl suit you just fine

Well I am 1600 miles away from all of my tools so I took the truck to AAMCO and the guy said he would look at it for free and let me know if the clutch needs to be replaced. He said it is not slipping at all and looked at me like I am crazy. I know I'm not crazy, I have had one go out before and I know it feels different today than it did three days ago. I think I might give it a few days and see what I think. I haven't found a clutch for it in town and I will have to order one so I guess I will just keep driving it and if it gets a little worse I will replace it. I am going to look into the Valair and see what I can find. Thanks Ya'll

You will know your clutch is slipping when the RPMs go up and your speed doesn't!

Not sure of you terminology in the OP.

Speed shifting? Are you shifting without the clutch, and slamming gears?
Launch in second gear? Is that just doing a normal start form a stop in 2nd gear, as most of us do that.

Had your friend never driven a clutch before? You Cummins should be easy to learn on, because unless towing with a stock clutch I just simply released the clutch while idling, then gave it throttle (Not dump) release slower than a dump, faster than a slip.

What do you tow once a week, call Valair about an organic Double Disk, still smooth an HOLDS.
