Getting a new nv4500 tranny , have choice of 1 1/4 or 1 3/8 input , planning on installing a new clutch while I'm in there , can I use the same flywheel ? Also it's just a work truck / plow rig , clutch recommendation? Thanks !
You will need a different flywheel to run the 1.375" shaft. If the truck was stock I would do the 13" conversion, basically convert it to the same clutch that came in the HO motors.
The shaft upgrade isn't really necessary until you reach about 500 hp
If the price is negligible then never pass up the opportunity to do something you may want in the future. Stock or not. You'll probably be suggested to get the 13" clutch and its best to get a new flywheel too depending on the condition and prior slippage done to the stock flywheel.
It's only a 50.00 upgrade for the larger input ... that's why I'm asking you guys ..lol was just trying to stay away from a new flywheel also to save money , the race car takes all the money I have .
I would do the upgrade, especially if you tow with it. I snapped my factory input last December.. Not a fun thing to happen and leave you on the side of the road. Luckily I was about 2 miles from my house.
