Sorry as Im sure this is asked alot but I have a '99 cummins 5 speed. Previous owner replaced clutch and lift pump within the last year. Has a k&n cold air intake and gauges. I was thinking bout a smarty but I'm opened to other suggestions. Anyways, what should my next upgrade be? Thanks

make sure the lift pump is an aftermarket high performance lift pump.

then get a fuel pressure gauge. you always want your fuel pressure to be between 10 and 20psi. even under wide open throttle. if it gets out of that range, it becomes dangerous for your injection pump.

after you get those, I'd go with an adrenaline with pulse. gives you both bottom end power (like a smarty) and top end power (like an edge or tst) and you can update and download new tunes via USB.

it also has custom tuning for when you are ready to tweak your tunes to compliment your trucks setup and your needs.

adrenaline with pulse will show you gauge readings on the pulse monitor, but if you go with anything else besides adr/pulse or edge juice with attitude, you will need to buy gauges to monitor boost and EGT. (trans temp too if you were an auto) those monitors can do fuel pressure too, but I would more trust a mechanical fuel pressure gauge than an electronic one...

as for clutch, adrenaline is capable of slipping a brand new stock clutch, so either keep the power backed off a bit, or upgrade the clutch to a south bend or valair clutch rated to handle more power.

a boost elbow will also help you get more than 26psi out of your stock turbo.
retorque of the head bolts to 125lbs/ft will ensure you don't pop the head gasket, and you might want to do the 5th gear nut upgrade if/when you have your transmission out, to prevent 5th gear from failing.

I have the airdog150, but there are a lot of good pumps out there.

Fass95 and 150 are great pumps, airdog100, 150, and 165 are great pumps
raptor100 and 150 are also great pumps.

hardest part about install with the 150+ pumps is dropping the tank to install the draw straw or replacement canister. second hardest is holding that heavy bracket up to mount the unit to the frame. the rest is pretty straight forward and simple. guess the return line insert in the tank filler tube was kind of a pain too, but its all doable. just plan on spending a few hours doing it and drive till your tank is damn near empty to do it. (and fill up a container with about 5 gallons of diesel to put back in the tank when you do the swap because these pumps move so much fuel they will suck air in a partial tank of fuel pretty fast.) Holley black pumps will work for lower hp builds as well, but their warranty isn't 1.2 as good as airdog or fass.

gallons per hour flow rating.

500hp or less builds can get away with 95/100gph no problem
500hp+ builds should go with 150/165gph to be on the safe side.
