From what I have read you don't gain a hole lot with an after market intake manifold compared to the price. However I have a CA truck with the egr on it. I am looking for a good cheap aftermarket intake elbow / horn. Best price I found was crazy carls turbos $135 or $155 painted. Anyone know of one that is priced better? I know the cheapest route would be a non CA stock one but if I have to buy one might as well buy one that looks cool and is pre drilled and tapped.

Your intake manifold should already have a hole tapped to 1/8 npt. Look for the plug. It is below the intake horn. If you have a MIG welder I'd say make one yourself, it is the cheapest route and there are a few write-ups

Look on ebay for a used part. It would not be very expensive. You can also check the parts for sale on here.

I made one out of 3" exhaust pipe, a 90 and 45. Just cut the pieces until they are the same as the stock air horn then it will connect right up. It's been a while ago but think I only had about $50.00 in it.

Unfortunately I don't have a welder or really have access to one. Too bad because I enjoy diy projects. I am also considering a stock elbow.
witegoat is the 1/8 npt on the intake plate? I didn't think the stock elbow came with one.

All you would have to do is take it to a exhaust shop or welding shop after you have it ready to weld. Also you would need a piece of 1/4 or 3/8 plate for a base with a 3" hole for the pipe.

Good to know, come to think of it I think that may be where the boost sensor was on my first gen.
Does it really matter if the sensor is mounted there or on the horn?

IMO, 1/4" is a wee on the thin side and wont make a great seal.
I like 1/2" thick flanges.

OP- you should be able to easily drill/tap as many ports as you want into a stock cast elbow. ;)

It should all be the same. Why drill and tap a new hole if there is one there?
