Did mine almost a year ago.
Do yourself a favor and drop the pan now and that way not as much fluid will be falling on you when you are trying to drop to the valvebody out. Mine took a lot of fluid. Like 10 quarts. Can't remember exactly. Just be careful not to overfill.
Its not that tough. Just take your time.
