I'm now retired, have time. I'm going to change my front fuel filter today. What size socket do I need to remove the filter housing cap? I will be buying it and want to get it right the first time. Thanks

you can buy a shallow 28mm online with a 3/8 drive, that's what most people do. The main thing is to get a 6 point socket, not a 12 point socket

If you don't already get a swivel socket and an extension as well :)

Prepare yourself for an awkward, difficult twist to get that sucker off. I also use the 1 1/8" socket. Be sure to replace your seal and remove the first one prior to replacing. Not only am I jacka$$, but I'm also an idiot! I somehow ran 10k miles with two seals on and no leaks..... in even dumber fashion, I didn't realize it until my third fuel filter change in which I discovered I somehow had put a 3rd seal on there, and it leaked.... Luckily I pulled my head out of my a$$ and installed it the right way.

Thank you, I'll make sure to remove the seal. I picked up 1 and 1/8" socket. And have a 14" extension with swivel. Your not as bad as you think. Not to many could run 2 seals for that amount of miles and not have a leak. Thanks again

Thanks everyone for the help. Thought I'd share a pic. Don't let your filters get like this.
holy hell, when is the last time you changed that thing. Friend of mine at work says he just resets the timer and does it every 2-3 times it goes off. He said on the normal interval he cut a set open and both were super clean still.

I dont have a reminder for fuel filter change. I do have it for the oil change. I'm going to say it's been over 5 years since it's been changed. I'm surprised it still ran. I can't believe I forgot about this . I'm telling you getting older stinks. I forget stuff all the time. I've recently started using my phone for all my reminders and it helps.

should be ever other oil change, fuel filter interval is 15,000 miles, oil change is 7,500 on the 11s.

Yes I understand, please forgive me as I had brain fart. Kicking myself hard. I can't believe I didn't have any problems with engine performance. Only problem I had was that cap didn't want to come off , it had timeto grow itself to the housing.
