CD player or not?

I am about to buy Longhorn 2500. I noticed a lot of the dealers order a CD player and A moon roof. I do not want a moon roof, however I am not sure about the CD player. Also where do thy install it? Can you use memory sticks or other memory devices for music? Does it have any storage ie hard drive etc?

CD player goes in center console. Radio is set up for flash drive and SD card.
If you have the 40/20/40 seat, the CD player is under the bottom cushion of the center seat, it folds up on hinges. I listen to a lot of books on CD when traveling, and the CD player location is a bit of a pain, but not a deal killer. In the day of satellite radio, iPods and MP3s, I can see why Ram put it there.
For me, the location of the cd player is more of a pain than anything. It's really not feasible to change cd's while driving, I have tried and got honked at.
Being that I'm old now & have lots of CDs, I ordered to CD player.
The 80's called and wants it's CD player back!! Bwahahahahaha

Seriously, whether a CD player is good for you or not is up to you.. Most people think they need a CD player, in their car, but the reality is that most don't.

When was the last time you bought a CD? I buy MP3s and in my old truck, I use to burn them to CD to play... It's much easier, for me, to just copy my MP3s to a SD card or USB stick... No need for a CD player for me...

Funny thing though..... I need a record player for the house.....

I didn't order a CD player in my truck. I just dump all my CD's onto an ipod. 7,136 songs on my ipod--I can't imagine how many CD's that would be.

The cool thing is you can run the ipod through the 8.4 screen.
on my 11' i didn't use the CD player for 2.5yrs, not a once. Then i found my library card and started checking out books for my longer trips, did like 22 books in 4 months. the 14 came without it, so I guess i will just go back to audible for my books. it works, easy to take with me, but free was nice.

Many libraries offer free downloads of audio books; might want to check with yours.

Or you can dump library audio books onto your ipod. Not pushing the ipod but it's just so convenient for me to use it in my truck, a different truck (with ear buds), boat, mowing the lawn, etc... When I bought my first one, I loaded all my CD's on it. It was something like ten plastic grocery bags of CD's I put on the ipod. Guess what, the ipod didn't get any heavier and I had all my music, videos and audio books SO portable.

Allright, I won't talk about the ipod any more. :S:

CD player is a must if you're sound quality. Nothing beats it, especially if you find HiFi versions. Dark side of the Moon on the original master recording. Oh yeah

What is this "iPod" contraption you keep talking about? Is it some sort of newfangled hi-tech sci-fi device? Sounds a little fishy to me....

That's what happened...... MIL found a bunch of old records, tomy knowledge, you can't get on CD or MP3.... You know kids stuff like Disco Duck.. LOL

Exactly! MP3 is marginal at best, and satellite sounds outright bad by comparision. Even if I do run from MP3, I always rip from CD - better quality, and don't need to rebuy if your device is lost or dies.

Oh, and for the guy asking when a CD was last purchased?

Two days ago . . .

CD player purchase and install after build?

Dealer who is working with me on a 2014 Limited, says that they can't order the player after the truck is built? Anyone have any info about this?

Probably because there wouldn't be a wiring harness in the bottom compartment for it.

No idea if it's true or not, but I've read on some other forums, it was because there's no parts... The Factory won't allow the CD player to be sold @ dealerships because they don't have extras to sell, and the only way a dealer can get one is to supply a VIN that was built with one, as it will be for repair..
Since 95% of the trucks DON'T come with CD players I have a hard time believing that....
Those talking about MP3 quality sound like they don't understand MP3 bit rates. 99% of people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 320k MP3 and a CD audio track. Especially on the Alpine system in the Ram, since it isn't exactly professional quality.
