I bought this hood mount http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/Adobe/dg2antpf.pdf
and a Wilson trucker 2000 antenna. Also got the large teardrop style stud with the pl239 connection. Problem is that there is no clearance for the antenna cable between the mount and the fender. I think you have to use the "firering" type connection and a regular 3/8" stud to use the hood mount. But the NMO size hole is 3/4" diameter and Im not sure this will work.
Has anyone made this mount work? And how?
I need some guidance.
Thanks

I used a firering cable on my 2nd Gen fender mount and held it on with a stainless bolt. It looked nice and clean and never gave any issues. I have been looking at the same mount as you but just haven't decided how I want to mount the radio. I am about ready to mount cut the center console and mount it in there.

I made a couple of stepped washers yesterday to bring the hole in the mount down to the right size. Looks like it's going to work well. My firering coax comes tomorrow and I'll try it out.
Let me know how your console mount goes. Right now I just have mine stuffed between the console and passenger seat.

how did this work out for you? i posted couple months back on looking for a hood mount. I have a firestik on my toolbox that works good now but like to move it to the hood like the mount you have shown.

I was going to use it to mount a Wilson 2000 trucker antenna. I tried it out and it wobbled around way to much. Maybe something lighter would work ok.
Be careful with the fender bolt. Mine stripped out, and I wasn't torqueing on it very hard.

That mount is designed for an NMO-mount antenna - common in public safety and ham radio antennas. It's a totally different style than the 3/8"x24 mounts using 1/2" holes that are common for CB antennas.

We are working on a Project 3500 that will end up with both 2m/70cm ham radio (a Kenwood TM-D710GA) and a CB (a Cobra 148GTL). I am researching mounts myself and was looking into the mount you have.

Question for you - have you tried it on your truck yet? It mounts to a factory bolt, and I have a report that there is a nut under there that's not captive. Have you encountered this?

As for CB antenna mounts, we are looking into those as well. Things like bed tops and other items complicate it a bit.

Yep. Tried it on mine. I machined some spacers to get the size right. That part of it worked great. But, the mount is a bit to "bendy" for anything heavy like I was using. And yes, either the threads stripped out or the nut fell off. Either way, the fender bolt will not tighten up anymore.

Thank you for that bit of intel. I looked at ours earlier today and I couldn't see any easy way to see the bottom side of that bolt. I might be able to fish a fiber-optic camera into there, but that's a bit much for installing an antenna where you have a mount that says "this will work".

I'll get in touch with the manufacturer and see what answer they can offer. I suspect that at some point there was a captive nut on the bottom of that, but Ram found a way to get the bolt on with the nut held only temporarily.

The other part intended to work with that, an NMO antenna connection, has a very low-profile cable connection that comes in from the side, hence the limited clearance between the mount and the fender.

For now, still seeking mounting options.

I found a company I hadn't heard of before that makes some mounts that might help. It's Breedlove Mounts.
