I know there are lots of different places in the US that sell wheels and tires online. Always seem to be really good deals. But if you try to get them up here, shipping and brokerage is just stupid. Does anybody know of a Canadian outfit that has good prices? My local Kal-Tire wants 400 bucks per tire on the truck and near 200 per tire for the 5th wheel.

My winter wheels I bought from discount tire and wheel. They have free shipping in the US. I had them shipped to the sweetgrass shipping outlet in Montana and I went and picked them up. Shipping took 3 days and it takes just under an hour to get to sweetgrass from Lethbridge.

Hmmm.... I went with Nokian's for my truck fro Kal & I think it was around $1300 with taxes (and we have more tax in BC).

My 5th wheel tires were around $100 a piece from Kal... cheaper than the discount dealer in town. I called up one of the local Kal stores & Tom the manager answered... told him that I needed tires for my 5th.. well... let's see what we can do.. Cheap Tom. Cheap. ... oh, OK... how about $100 a piece?

since my trailer tires age out & not wear out & figured that every 3 or 4 years @100 is about the same as 7 @ 200.

I have considered getting tires when I go to the US in April, but was thinking I'd rather avoid the hassle. Getting tires shipped to a US destination would work, but then I have to get them mounted and balanced somewhere. And I know that my local tire shop will charge me for that since I would not have bought the tires there.

There's no hassle with getting stuff in the states. You tell them what you bought and it's value and you go in and pay the gst on it and your gone in 5 minutes. I have bought thousands of dollars of stuff and had it shipped to the outlet. I got 4 brand new aluminum wheels from discount for $300CAD all said and done after the gst at the border. They wanted almost $200 a wheel here. I got them all mounted and balanced and installed on the truck for $78 at a local shop.

So where exactly do you get your stuff shipped to?

Yep I was just there yesterday to pick up a bunch of crap. Actually the last time I brought up tires they asked if they were made in USA, since 2 sets weren't I had to pay 7% duty on them ontop of the 5% gst. Never had it when I brought tires up before but I know that is the law. All you do is google montana shipping outlet, one place in sweetgrass. It is $20 to recieve a pallet. Go though the border pick them up, come back show them reciept pay money that's it. Usually you end up wasting 2 hours or so at the border and the time you get your stuff but it's still so cheap.

I got tires for my buddy he said local shops were about $2000 for 35 on his stock rims. He got new 35 on new 18 rims mounted balanced to him for about $2200 all said and done. Plus he can now sell his stock rims for like $400. Granted it was cheaper because I was going down and he just gave me some fuel money.

However discount tire now ships to your door in canada via UPS. It is 60/tire and 50/rim gst, duty, shipping to your door, and they mount and balance for free.

i've bought multiple sets of tires from discount tire direct out of the states and they includes all brokerage and taxes etc. so the price u see on the website is the price u pay shipped to your door.

Let me digest the math on this. You bought wheels & tires in the USA & had them shipped to MT. You saved $1640 over what they wanted in Calgary for JUST the tires. That is a pretty lofty claim.

Perhaps I am an idiot so explain the math to me please.

You say you saved $1640 over JUST the tire cost in Calgary. OK so now divide $1640 by 4 & you get $410. That is your savings PER corner. So for this to work you would have been quoted an absolutely ridiculous cost per tire when someone else can sell you tires & rims combined & be $410 less than just tires per corner.

This is just not making sense to me.

Please provide more details with actual cost paid vs quoted amounts & what tire supplier quoted you this outragoeus amount of money so I know never to shop there. What you are saying is they quoted you $410 PLUS the cost of the rims MORE than than you bought then in the USA.That is some outrageously priced tires.

eagle alloys are the best price right here in Alberta from what i have found. I have the series 197 in Super Finish Black and all 4 were $680. I spent $1740 on 4X37" Dunlops, so all total the bill was right around $2700 installed and balanced from my local shop, so that means this all comes with warranty too. It was not worth it for me at that price to look over the boarder. Dropped my truck off in the morning and then picked it up at 3, the shop is only 2 blocks from my work. I am happy with the dealer, but if you can save lots of money it might be worth it.

About a year ago, I ordered Scorpion ATR's for my 1/2 ton from tire rack for $120/ea. With duty/shipping to my door in Ponoka the grand total was $905 and the mount/balance at Canadian tire was $60ish. The best price I could find locally was $320/ea on "sale".

That being said, it only worked out to about $50 more for me to get my BFG 285's locally, so I guess it all depends what you are looking for.
