I am looking at a 98 12v that has had a lot done to it. Stage 4 injectors, competition valves, injection pump tuning, FASS 150gph lift pump, o-ringed head, 60# valve springs, shied diesel cam, schwitzer HTB2 turbo, 4'' straight pipe exhaust,PDI T4 exhaust manifold, banks techni-cooler intercooler, AFE bladerunner intake elbow, custom water/methanol injection kit, and ISSPRO gauges (boost, EGT, tranny temp, fuel pressure). Can all this shorten the lifespan of the motor? Is it too much? I am relatively new to diesels and want to know what are the pros and cons of modifying your engine? Thanks

IMO it's better to buy a stock truck. Power mods have the potential for more abuse to the engine and drivetrain.
Plus it's fun to do the mods yourself.
Definitely never pay extra for mods on a used truck.

:agree2: Great advise. The more that's been done to the truck the more chance its been abused and seen a lot of heat.

It may still be a very good deal, in the end its your call.

U dont know how that truck was treated, u dont know who did the mods and if they knew what they were doing or not.

even with kind of mods that truck can still be driveable for a long time if treated right.

its my buddy's truck, all the mods were done by me except forv a local shop did the headwork. it hasn't been abused thats for sure, he has all maintenance records since it was new, all the paperwork for the mods done, as well as dyno sheets. its a pretty sweet truck, i would sure take it, except mine is faster:hehe:
