Okay so my truck is a 04.5, it's in the shop now, just had feed tubes and injector lines replaced. Mechanic said couldn't get it started, finally gave it just a tiny little shot of ether and it started. Let the truck idle over an hour, shut it off, and immediately tried to restart, it won't start.

truck never had any issue like this before.

also, the gauge cluster and RKE is not installed currently as the cluster is off at the gauge repair guys shop. So we're thinking because the cluster isn't in, it's probably in theft mode or something that's not Allowing the lift pump run or something along those lines. Can anyone provide some insight on this?

also, on the chance that I need to buy a cluster, can someone clarify the differences in part numbers I'm seeing? Like for example my original cluster is 56051104AF, I search for that on eBay etc and I find the same number but AG,AE,AD etc what's the difference, in any? I'm assuming that's superseded part numbers and it's really the same exact part?

1. Do you have any ability to monitor rail pressure? It sounds like you may have a bad injector. If it can run on ether its definitely a fuel issue. It should also be pretty easy to verify if lift pump is coming on. If you have the rail pressure you need then there may be other issues but I would try to verify this first.

2. If you don't have a chipped key, it should not matter as long as you can turn the key over. I know this for sure because my truck got stolen, and like you I do not have a chipped key.

3. For part numbers XXXAF or XXXAG, the XXXAF was a part that was produced before XXXAG. The critical part is that it comes out of a truck that was diesel and manual. Besides that I don't think it matters much. However I'm not sure if you need to have the cluster or ecm programmed for each other, that would require more research

I hope it's not an injector, cause the truck never had this issue before the fuel system was opened to replace feed tubes and lines. But I also can't connect to the ecm, scan tool won't connect but obd port has power. We're thinking an issue in the cluster may be the reason why. So hopefully when the cluster gets back we'll put it in and see what's what then.

As far as cluster part numbers my truck is an auto, so I'd assume as long as it come out of a 04-05 diesel auto it'll be fine, if I even need to buy another cluster?

Oops. My bad. I had a hard time finding a manual cluster so I assumed that is what you needed. To correct myself, it should be fine out of 04.5 or 05. Keep in mind that the mileage will store to the cluster and you will have to swap over the RKE module.

I've also had issues in the past with communicating over OBD that I had to do wiring repair to the port. So don't rule that out 100% yet.

Yeah right now I'm just hoping it's a minor issue that he overlooked as to why it won't seem to prime & bleed. Cause like I said it's never had this issue before, the only issue it had before was leaking fuel at the head, which is why it got new feed tubes & injector lines.
