I am looking at picking up a new 5th wheeler for the family and I was wondering if my single axle 3500 will pull this (legally).

everything done to my truck which is not much, is listed in my sig.

here is a link for the 5th I am looking at.

Fifth Wheels, Toy Haulers & Travel Trailers - Heartland RV

I do a lot of travelling though the rockies when on vacation.

As far as pulling, you won't have a problem dragn' it. Now handling will be a different story. Hold on if you pass a big rig on a 2 lane highway! That was one of the main reasons I upgraded to a dually, for handling. But it really not that major. As far as legallity goes, the only thing you goin to have to worry about is length and you prolly won't be anywhere close! I have a 40' ToyHauler and a 4 dr long bed truck, so I'm way long and haven't got in any trouble.

can I get sway bars for my truck to help with stability? is that even a option for me?

I am going to have a tough enough time convincing the wife as is.....i don't want to be telling her I want to buy another truck just to haul the 5th wheel that I said my current truck could haul.

You will be fine towing that unit.

Stabilizers are not made for any fifth wheel. There are cusioned pins available like the 5th Airborn that will smooth the ride out if you choose.

You didn't state the gear ratio but be aware there is a huge rating difference between 4.10 gears and 3.73. I can't find my book so I can't give you the official numbers from dodge. My Mega cab is something like 13 000 lbs, actually lower than my 99 ram V10 which was nearly 14 000 lbs. I'm not sure why the official numbers are so low on these trucks.

Also be aware that you might need a special licence to tow over 10 000 lbs. In BC I needed an endorsment to legally tow my 11 000 GVW 5th.

you can always get a set of towing ladder/traction bars that will help with the swaying and load carrying on your rear end I know a couple guys that run them and say they make a big difference in the handling prob cost ya around $600 bucks for good set shipped

You'll be just fine. That's what your truck was built for!!! I added some air-bags to mine though. They leveled the truck out under load and helped a little with handling. I tow a 36'GN horse trailer with living quarters that's alot heavier when loaded than your travel trailer very frequently and it pulls and handles like a dream.

I haul a 40' triple slide that is 13,500 empty and maxes out at 19,500 fully loaded. I'm usually around 15,500 and rarely above that number. Point is, I climb some serious mountains with this setup and usually don't shift (auto) more than one gear down while climbing. You will have no trouble. Have a good time.

I pull a Raptor 3812TS (40' Toy Hauler) with 2 big Seadoos in the garage.

Trailer is 13,100# dry.

With all of our crap it has to be pushing 18,000#.

I do not have any issues.

Might want to consider an upgrade on insulation. That unit will be hard to heat in below freezing weather and hard to cool in 100 degree weather. If you stay away from this weather you're be fine though. I personally would not like pulling it without a dually. Duallys are so much more stable with large high loads. That height of any 5th wheel catches a lot of wind.

Looks like we have the same truck. The Dodge towing manual shows max towing capacity of 13,700# with 3.73's.

I am also looking at a Heartland . . . even more so as the Canuckbuck climbs in value. LOL

Hope you and your family enjoy it. I miss Kananaskis Country and the Rockies.
