Cactus juice

Guess I was thinking my EJWA would be like cactus juice, it was more like apple juice. Don't get me wrong, I like the extra power, just anywhere close to where I want to be. So here are my thoughts. Go ahead and upgrade turbo and injectors. When my clutch starts slipping replace it then. (Won't. Be long I'm sure). I want to take a stab at doing all of it myself. Want to go with a killer b turbo. Question is; how much stuff do I have to change to go with that turbo?

shouldn't have to change much as long as you get the 2nd gen kit.

Injectors, Studs, springs, ic boots.

Might as well do rods, orings, deck the head.
there is NO reason to pull the head if the gasket is not blown.

So with the 2nd gen kit is it pretty much just an exchange or will I have to buy other stuff (for just the turbo)
should be just a parts swap.

So says you.

If your doing studs n springs might as well while your in there. Decided to do it when mine was out and low n behold it was 3/1000 out. Got it decked n feel better about 60psi now. I did not have a blown head gasket.. N valve springs are way easier with it off too! What is it an extra hr or two to check it out?
how long and and how many miles has the head been sealed from the factory? lets spend another $300 on o-ringing the head, surfacing the head, new spring and now studs. oh wait a gasket kit to seal it all back up. and all this on a perfectly good head that the gasket was not blown on.

He might be just fine.. Or he might blow it then have to do it all over again n be spending way more money.

I do all of everything to do with my truck myself and to me it's a no brainier to go in there. You see guys on the forum all the time.. " oh I blew my head gasket again." Then they get a new one, put the stock head bolts back on, no orings. Don't even check the bottom of the head with a flashlight n a straight edge. Turns out later on they had a warped head the whole time...

I'm just one a those do it right the first time kinda guys.
My edge juice made decent power when stock. Way better than a completely stock truck!! Im running injectors now and its faster even. If you are gonna upgrade the turbo I would do studs since your spending the money. My buddy had 150's and silver bullet turbo and it wasnt long before he started seeping some coolant out the head.

spending even more money on what?!? there is no price difference from pulling the head with a good gasket as opposed to a blown gasket!? you are going to do the all the same stuff regardless. :confused013:  :banghead:

If it's not broke don't fix it. Head studs can be done without breaking the seal.i know a shop in Lubbock (Bledsoe diesel performance) that does em that way every time with no trouble.

Ya it's easy to do em without taking the head. That's beside my point. If your gonna go all the way to there, why not check the head out? A little
More time, a little more money sure. But when you go to all that trouble anyway why not just go a little further to know its all perfect. Cheap insurance if you ask me.

I was saying if you went all the way to studs and springs. Then blew the head gasket after. You'd have to go all the way back in there, when you were just a couple hours away already before.

What are some thoughts on my op about waiting until my clutch starts going out before upgrading it?
you could...but you might be paying a tow bill or an accident. my clutch would slip with just the adrenaline but slipping isn't what killed it. The pilot bearing lost its needles. They built up on the clutch face and I couldn't release the clutch. Luckily there was no one at the stop sign and I was able to rip it out of gear before entering the intersection.
One of these days folks will realize the block is never flat. Go ahead, pull the head and deck it flat and drop it back on the untrue block, that probably mated with the untrue head perfectly . Lol

Quite silly to break the factory HG seal if its good

My block was straight as straight can be. Head was 3/1000 out

N my head gasket was a little mauled up. There was coolant in the headbolt holes. Damn glad I did it.

or the fact of distortion when you torque the head.
