got my cablight for my B-day today and I am going to start the install pretty soon. Does anyone have any pointers??

Chris
PM me your email address and I can send you some installation intructions I have. It's a file for Adobe Reader though, so if you don't have that program it might not open.

put something on your wrists, the headliner material itches and scratches. Put tape over the position u have to drill, the metal tends to scratch the paint when it spins.

remove the head liner. and when you are drilling on top of the cab, tape off the front portion of the cab and keep a vacume close the the drill bit so the hot shavings dont damage or scratch the clear coat. Use that blue painters tape as it should not leave any residue on the cab. I would tape about a 1 1/2ft back from the wind shield on the cab.

Sure can! If you PM me your email address I'll send them right over!

I bought my cab lights from Recon and they didn't come with a template! They did send me detailed instructions, which were the ones I can send you.

good ideas especially the tape!!

I got the factory Dodge kit.

Chris
ill take that one step further...the painters masking tape (the blue stuff) is the best because is doesnt leave tape residue behind

When drilling sheet metal, really with a hole saw, the metal shavings will get hot enough to damage the paint. The best way to remove is with a vacuum cleaner as you drill

I got the dealer to install mine with parts for 300 today, I dont see the need to do it myself when i dont have the time or patience. But i think that 300 install isnt that bad for a stealership, plus they are warrantied.

So far, I haven't had a problem with my Recon Lights. They didn't come with the wiring nor was there wiring already there in the headliner, so I had to make my own string to connect all the lights together and run down the passenger pillar. I put plenty of silicon when I put the lights on, so I haven't noticed any leaks thankfully!
