Hey guys,

I've got the factory running boards, not only are they getting discolored spots, but they are ripping out of the sheet metal. Each one has 3 sets of 2 bolts that go directly into the sheet metal under the cab, and the bolts are ripping out of the sheet metal...they're toast. :banghead:

My truck is just tall enough that its a nuisance to get in without them, so I need to find some more. I like the look of the factory ones, but I need some that mount to the cab mount bolts so they are sturdier.

Anyone know any brands that mount that way?

Thanks for the help.

Check out iron cross HD steps. I love them on my 2012. And a nice side effect is they seem to block a lot of stuff from flying up and hitting my dually's fender flares.

I am not small and my factory boards give under my weight so I am going to add some braces over to the next rail under the cab. The older style aftermarket running boards all came with this bracing, but now they cheapen them by deleting it.

The Amp steps will rip out the paper thin body metal too . I noticed from day one that my Amp steps flexed alot when compared to the ones i had on my 3rd gen . It took a little over a year before the front mount ripped out of the body . I talked to a rep at Amp Reasearch and they have had numerous issues on the 4th gens . They have a repair kit available . Metal tabs with threaded inserts that weld on to the body to stiffen up the mounting points .

I ordered mopar chromed aluminum side steps for my 2012 mega cab 822-120-88AE. They were shipped to the dealer but i havent picked them up yet. They were 600.00 total. Now I have doubts after reading these replys. Are the going to rip out of my new truck? Is the chroming that poor that it discolors? What is the 600.00 for? Does anbody else have anything good to say about these side steps?

Loose some weight, other than that I have nothing.

Im 6'9 and hovering around 290lbs .Not really overweight . The Amp steps are rated for 300 . I see the promlem being that the amount that the steps or running board stick out from the truck . They create more leverage against the mounts , and the thinner body metal can't take the stress . Tube steps that are mounted closer to the body would have less leverage against the mounts .

Im at 275 and the HP steps from Iron cross dont even move when I step on them. They have the main bracket, then each end has an extra support brace as well.

I've actually already ripped one side of my truck's sheet metal with the stock running boards... Was hoping to find something new as my truck is tall enough that boards would make it easier.

I have a pair of very cheap step bars made by TFX they are the 3" black tubes and they hold up great that mount to the cab bolts in the front and back they don't look fancy just black tubes but for $169 I can't complain. They were are a pain to install because the cab bolts obviously have never been out and they were lock-tited in.

Just wanted to add that I'm 6'0 260lbs

My truck is an 08, they didn't tear the metal just stretched the rear driver side hole so it was floppy and wouldn't stay in.
