I asked my dealer if i could buy my shortblock back from d/c. Im getting a new shortblock put in this week under warranty, the # 1 cyl is scored alittle bit. They thought broken wristpin but they dont know for sure since they got the ok to replace it they didnt look for the cause. Anyway what is a fair price to give for the old shortblock? It ran and idled fine it just started ticking( slight knock)not smoking or anything,@ 70000 miles. I cwould like to buy it back for a good rebuilt backup, i just dont know what its worth?

Most cores are less than 1500.00
I would offer 800.00 and see what they say

How did you get DC to replace ur motor under warranty with ur upgrades, i need to go see that dealer.

because cummins warrenties them to 100k! And they take care of there customers!

I know that it needs a sleeve and maybe a piston, but i know it was only driven @ 100-150 miles while it was knocking a little bit and it still ran good, used no oil didnt smoke or idle bad or nothing. I most definately would give 800.00 for it. I figured it would be worth more though. I looked at it today in the shop and the # 1 piston was at the top so i couldnt see it but the mech said it wasnt that bad and the other cyl looked nice n clean. He also said the only thing dc wanted to know was if i had a K&N air filter. I do but he told them it was clean and the tube was clean and had no oil init. He also told them that the truck has been well taken care of and they told them thats fine they would send a new shortblock (warranty).

hey 06, I took my sc off and i didnt have my 2 tank sys hooked up when it went in either. they didnt care @ the air box upgrades or the exhaust the mech said these trucks need to breathe.
