Hey guys, good news! I'm getting back to the cummins world after a year long hiatus. Looking at a '07 that's been deleted and tuned, but the dealer doesn't have the tuner (came from an auction I'm sure). Normally this is a no go for me, but figured I'd ask since this would be my first 3rd gen truck. (Been replacing VP's for a loooong time now)
IF I wre to buy this truck, what are my options? Dealer flash a stock tune back into it assuming they would even touch it being deleted? Buy a new PCM/ECM and start fresh? Would efi live be able to overwrite whatever tune is in it?
Like I said, this is not my area of expertise, don't mind the work, just dunno where to start... Or if I should just stay away from the truck all together...
Thanks for the help!

Phil is an efi live expert, I'm not but will give you a little info on what I dealt with on my truck.

I bought mine and it was stock but I suspect someone ran a tuner on it and left it on because when I installed my efi live tune I started getting turbo and maf codes. I ended up having to get a dealer to flash a clean up to date stock file in it and let my tuner build me a tune off that fresh dealer file. More than likely you won't have any problems and everything will be fine and for your sake I hope so. But, I just wanted to give you a heads up that sometimes these trucks and can have personalities all there own and give you fit trying to overwrite what's already in there.

you should try and talk them down in price, because I believe it is illegal for a dealer to sell a deleted truck, i could be wrong though !

The price is already low enough I think they know the problem with it being tuned. And I dunno about it being illegal, but definitely frowned upon. That's why big dealers just send them to auction. Hey do t want the hassle of a customer bringing them a tuned truck saying 'you sold me a broken truck!'

its illegal to tamper with emissions in the united states.

Them selling the truck deleted could get them a huge fine for sure. or worse.

I'd use this to negotiate a couple more hundred off.

Worst they can say is no, then you pay what you had them to. They want to sell the truck, not keep it. They wont tell you to pound sand.
