I was just going to post this, I saw it this morning. I am sure this is going to effect the other companies. I am wondering how they are coming up with 6 million dollars, probably just going to shut down and go away.

Definitely bad news for the aftermarket, but there are SO many different companies making either programmers or replacement ecu's for all kinds of cars and trucks. Off the top of my head I can think of a combined 10 different companies that make software and control products for the two vehicles in my driveway. It makes me think Bully Dog, or their parent company, must have had some pretty egregious problems to get this kind of treatment.

Tuning will NEVER go away, period. Never.

Where there's a will, and a market, there's a way.
I'm new to the diesel world, but have been doing my own tuning on the LSx platform for years. I recently picked up a "new" to me 2011 2500 w/35k on the clock. My first thought was to delete the DPF and use HPTuners to tune the truck, but guess what, HPTuners has removed access to the emission control parameters in their software for diesels.

I might have to make the move to EFI Live.

Does efi live provide access to emissions control parameters?

I wish. You have to find or know someone with the extra table data. Out of the box or doesn't. I've had no luck so had to buy tunes. And now I need to log my problem with my up shifts and hope they fix it instead of doing it myself in like 5m.

Defeating emissions with efi live is done outside of efi live. WARP is more common-user friendly to do what you want.

Like a lot of other stuff, what will likely end up happening is the source data and component for deletes will end up going offshore and being sold on eBay or something similar. All in the name of fake science and environmental fanaticism.

a friend of mine who knows a number of the principle organizers for SEMA indicated this is a topic that is getting a lot of play and the concern is around producing racing cars from production models basically some are attempting to remove the option of converting production cars to dedicated race cars all together, same for motorycles

Thats just like all these manufactures talking about wanting to build nothing but EV cars and trucks here in the next 7 to 10 yrs. Along with pushing ride sharing programs. I just don't see it. There is now way in my mind you can begin to eliminate the Automotive aftermarket. It's a multi trillion dollar industry that employees an enormous amount of people. I have an extremely hard time that they will be able to eliminate all the aftermarket, try and regulate it yes, make things more difficult yes, no way in hell will modifying our vehicles go away. There is too much money in it for that to happen IMO.

I would agree however the attrition rate in the racing community is high and the younger generation to a large extent are not interested in motorsports/modificaitons and if this continues im not sure what will be the relationship we will have with automobiles going forward, I think the younger generation would be fine with driverless cars for all

Yeah i know what your talking about. I work in the motorsports industry and have seen the intrest go away with each year. But I dont think its limited to just motorsports I think its affecting anything that requires us to sit and pay attention for a length of time other than youtube and video games :( We dont want to sit through anything rather just wait till its over and get the key highlights. I think its because we have way too much info and stimulation at our fingertips all the time. But then you see some of this no prep drag stuff and the LS craze and I think there might still be hope fingers crossed. I only hope the 40 somethings like myself are trying to change the way our kids think and this group of millenials thinking everything should be given to them and no need to work or drive is only a short faze. Kind of like the small economy cars of the 80's lol.. what a disaster that was but look at what we have for performance cars today. Who would of ever thought 600 or 800hp would be common place in a car you buy from the dealer with a waranty. So who knows im still trying to hold on and hope for the best. And bring my kids up to think more like I do and not like these millenials.
