20007 Ram 3500 6.7 150K miles
We had a spate of high 90's temps last week. Noticed the AC was not blowing cold at idle, worked fine on the road.
Put the gauges on and low pressure was 40 and high pressure 235. Vent temp at idle was 68 degrees. Decided to try adding 4 ounces 134a. Vent temp dropped 5 degrees, low pressure went to 45 and high pressure to 260.
Thought it best to stop messing with it at that point not wanting to overcharge the system.
Next morning started it up and compressor would not engage. No nothing but warm air.
Well, managed to f that up.
Recovered the refrigerant and vacuumed the system. No leaks at all. Added 12 ounces of 134, low pressure went to 90 and stayed there, compressor would not kick on. Decided to stop "repairs" at that point and appeal to a higher authority.
How did I break it by adding a few ounces of refrigerant?

The compressor was probably on its way out and it was one of those coincidences.
