Now 9 years into this love/hate relationship I've gone in deep. I can see the light at the end and she is almost exactly how I want her.

Original Post
Ok fellas its official. I'm full on goin crazy for this truck now. I can't leave anything stock and now I've got the speed itch again.

Lemme lay some ground work. I'm a gearhead all the way through. I work as a technician keeping University of Wisconsin printing presses, bindery equipment, climate and building systems in tiptop running condition. Lots of PM in that so its definitely help me grow and learn lots about all things mechanical.

If you're interested check my cardomain of my adolescent tribulations of car building with no money. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/767108/1989-nissan-240sx/ They are hilarious. The escapades include swapping a 95 maxima to a 5spd. Then ditching that and pulling the fwd 3.0 v6 (VQ30DE a variant of the GTR engine(VR38DETT) out of it and dropping it into a '89 240sx coupe w/ 350z 6speed. Stripped the hell out of it to 2000lbs. Never finished it cause it was totally unstreetable and got me into lots of expensive troubles. I'd like to build another RWD project eventually. Then came the Ranger which was a good daily but not strong enough for my tendancies.

Well that time is over now! I make a good wage and am now settled in a modest house. The garage is nearly bigger than the house so I've got room to collect tools and feed the need. Enough about me. On to the truck.

Purchased July 2009 w/ 76k on it. Flew to Weatherford, TX and purchased after a 2 hour test drive runnin it through its paces. Spent the first two years doing the basics getting its front end rebuilt and getting back to square 1. I've now got 129,000 and doing ~15,000k/year.

I still rock the 5" dual 45* tips that were on the truck when I bought it. Nothin wrong with em in my mind.

Loadin up the old Ranger after basically parting it out. Was able to capitalize on Obama's cash for clunkers since it was technically in my moms name. She took the credit and bought a new TDI Jetta. Sweet.

Back on the rollers... Made 427/1003 Dyno Dynamics load dyno. The operator tells me it can only handle 1200 lb/ft. Uh oh, need to find a new dyno spot. Smarty Revo SW9, Straight Piped Exhaust Summer 2011

Main reason I have this truck. I love messing around in the snow. I could live without the salt but I've learned to combat it effectively.

Some prick in a brand new Focus went right in front of me in a round about. Other driver was found to at fault and a complete imbicile.

HTT 62/71/13, SD Manifold and Single swap kit installed.

Spring cleanup shot.

Dyno Day at Cummins Tuner 4/6/13 66/71/13, stock injectors, udc, arson 3, ad165, small boost leak.

Same day at Great Lakes Dragaway. Eased into 'er cause I was scarred of blowing another trans. (Click to watch vid)

Reworking front bumper. It rusted after just one winter season due to improper prep from the power coater. They sandblasted and recoated it at no charge. All Color of Oregon, WI is a great company to work with!

Swapped to NV5600 and Street triple. Parts supplied by Gecovey and Valair. In 1 year I blew up 3 G56's. All breakages where from fast shifting in 4x4 on the street. Summer '13

New front shaft because the NV5600 is longer than the G56. Got this one from Doghouse Diesel w/ 1350 Ujoints. Beefy!

A1 H11 Head Studs, Exergy 100% injectors with 124* spray angle, Hamilton 103# Valvesprings and Extreme Duty Pushrods 3/19/14

Finally got some more cp3 on to support the injectors. Its an old style ATS kit utilizing an LBZ top pump. I fabbed my own coolant line because I don't like how the supplied line looked. I have the stock fan deleted so I had plenty of room to run the line in front of the pump. The extra cp3 had a huge impact on behavior and general awesomeness of the truck. Less smoke, more power, quicker spool. 10/3/14

Carli Ball Joints going in at 152,500 in January 2015. I put XRF's in at ~100k and they didn't last long. So happy to have a tight front end back!

Burnout contest at the Edge of Dells for Automotion spring 2014. So much fun!

Latest good vid at the drag strip.

Dyno at Calibrated Power. Spring 2014 588hp/1310 lbs/ft 62/71/13 & 100% injectors with Arson III on stock single pump.

Sled pulling in 2014

Latest dyno at Cummins Tuner Dyno Day. 811/1583! Spring 2015. 62/71/13 & 480/96/1.1, 100% injectors, Arson III on stock pump, LBZ top pump. 2800 usec DD tune that is very clean.

For twins, trips and 11's...

Thnks for the run down cool to read. Do you still have the ranger? +1 on the more pics of your truck. You have all the parts but the turbo, just waiting on the turbo to get there? plan on keeping this thread updated as your parts arrive and are installed?

The first part of the turbo puzzle is the turbo. Everything else has yet to be purchased. I'm going to be using tax money to get a detroit trutrac, and all the turbo stuff.

More pic of the fusion bumper and new wheels. On the bumper I spent about 6 hours sanding it smoother than the raw fab. It really helped the powder coat lay smoothly. I rounded all the edges as much as I could without rewelding since every line on the truck is rounded...

Also, This just happened a few months back.

So I...

Cool front bumper!
good read man. i got all my second gen swap parts from johnny at stainless diesel also, his stuff is top notch. are you running your charger in the stock 2nd gen location or are i flipping it?
Thnx guys.

YeahI talked to johnny yesterday. Gonna run the 66 up high in twin position so I don't have to take it all off when I do twins.
good idea, he also said that it spools better and flows better in the up high position, he said they dyno'd it both ways. ill be mounting mine up high as a single, just gotta get some time at the shop to fab it all up.
Weird that they say it spools better up high. I've read this before but I fail to see how that possible. Today I ordered a polished T3 stainless diesel manifold. Pics forthcoming.

Get that thing going for opening day! If you do you'll blow my doors off. If not it might be a close race. You still on stock turbo? With 120's? Holy balls! You have a trans yet?

Gonna go ahead and layout a future plans list in this post and add to post 2.
5. Upgrade to TNT
Opening Day at GLD 4/6/13! Go for a new PB!
6. Fuel Pressure Gauge
7. Rail Pressure Gauge
8. Lift pump
9. CP3 upgrade(prolly Arson 3.)
10. Upgrade to UDC
11. Head studs
12. Drive until I save more money.
13. Start thinking about injector sizing and twinz.

BTW, I no longer have the Ranger. It was a good truck but underengineered for my liking. I sheared the output of the trans. I replaced the trans and lots of other big tire related issues started popping up. And that was with 33's only. I ended up dragging it up to "Cash for clunkers" with a busted up ford 8.8. I removed all the good salable parts and trailered it to Green Bay. It was in my moms name being as I was a poor punk with skyhigh insurance rates so she took the $4k credit and bought a new diesel Jetta. She loves that car and gets 44mpg! Dual clutch auto and quick!

yea trucks still on the stock charger for now. but i really drive it in winter i have a car i drive everyday plus i have the trans out of it right now and haven't put it back in yet. but yes the trans is fully built all billet except the output shaft. I have all the parts for my 2nd gen. swap from stainless diesel, i have the charger and the steed speed is sitting on our shelf at work as a display piece till i install all my stuff. I will be putting the head studs and my Wilson intake in on Saturday and i will be putting the charger, manifold and 2nd gen. stuff on closer to spring.

When your ready for udc let me now ill help you out and we can tune it on the dyno at my work.

If you dont want to spend the cash on the nickel/stainless coating, i used VHT ceramic paint on my exhaust housing to keep it looking nice. you spray it on then bake it in the oven at 400 degree's for 1 hour. works Awesome!
So what the reason for having the expencive pyro?
do you have the charger already?
sound like your going to have a awesome setup man cant wait to check it out.

Is the rear in yours now a limited slip? If so i might be interested in buying it off of you when you install the truetrac, tired of the ole one wheel wonder.. Lol

I might take you up on that some time. Is it a load dyno? In Madison there is an dyno dynamics eddie current dyno. Really puts the load on hard and makes the torque numbers crazy.

I wanna do a nice coating because I want the look and durability. Also, I plan to tap the inlet on the tubine housing for a drive pressure port. This is because I'll be using both ports on the manifold for EGT. I want to use 2 EGT's because I want to be able to quickly see if 1-3 are operating differently from 4-6. If they are that points to an injector sticking. Then I can lift before meltdown. Also, the SPA have a settable alarm and max recorded temp. So, the reason for the SPA Dual EGT is for safety of the motor. I'm not really interested in a $10,000 build. I'd like to get at least 200,000 miles out of the stock motor. I'm at 128,500 now. Heck I'd like to get 300,000 though I know thats unlikely at elevated power levels.

Charger should be arriving today.

The diff in the truck is currently a one wheel wonder! I need a Trutrac like a mofo.

Hey man im from raymond its just south of milwaukee i went to ug for high school. What day are you going to drag your truck? I mine is blue with black pocket style fender flares. Im low on cash so i dont got much done yet
You'd be suprised how quick an auto 3rd gen with just a tuner can be. I wouldn't be suprised if you ran in the 14's with your setup. Auto's are at least .5 seconds faster than equally powered manuals. I'll be going Saturday the 6th unless the weather is aweful; then Sunday. How built is that trans? A boost launchin auto making 400hp should be deep into the 14's!

Just received the turbo from Chevokee man. Looks nice! Good seller! In the coming days I'll be talking to Johnny at SD about sending in the housing for the coating. Photo added to first post.

ours is a new dyno dynamics eddie current also, it will simulate 40,000lbs of load and graph 1500hp-2000ft. tq. so it'll do the trick. lol
I like that those gauges have a temp record, thats really helpful at the track and for safety. that charger should be really fun to drive. it'll spool fast! cant wait to see what it will run at the track.

Turbo looks Bad A$$ man
Wow! Yours is much beefier then. This one is a max of 1200 lb/ft. I hope it spools fast. I really like the low rpm boost to be able to easily control sliding in the snow... I'm sure at some point I'll be interested in a Cam to help spool sooner...

Baseline on the dyno w/ no tune. Dyno'ed 3 days after purchase. Did 317/620 w/ no tuner, straight exhaust, intake and thats it. Basically stock... I was kinda weirded out by the slightly elevated stock power levels. At least I knew she was healthy. those do seem like high "stock" numbers i wonder if there wasnt some sort of tune flashed on it, cause 317hp is also what the crank hp is. hmmm
